Pretty
Just finished a quilt today for a friend's daughter. I love this quilt! It's got such a fun combination of fabrics, each one from a different collection I believe.
The pattern is called "Pretty in Pink," and it's from Heather Mulder Peterson's book Livin' Large. This quilt went together
Rhythm
Things have slowly but surely slowed down, and with the welcome (calmer) change of pace the familiar fall rhythm has taken over. I'm loving the cooler temperatures (especially in the evenings), and it feels good to have a plan to accomplish everything on my lists. This weekend I
Farmer’s Wife Blocks and a Giveaway
This weeks Fig Tree version Farmer's Wife blocks were made from market sewing scraps. In fact, all of the half-square triangles were cut-offs from bigger blocks, and even the flying geese were made from scraps that were pretty small!
This is the block I shared the other day--Block 26, Cut
Pretty Pictures
It's been a crazy weekend, crazy in a good way as I had a lot of fun making three market quilt tops in less than a week. I heart them all and will share them as soon as I can. So this afternoon I was blessed with that wonderful way of feeling "caught up." Just for a minute, anyway!
Multi-Tasking
Yes, there's definitely a lot of multi-tasking going on here this weekend. I just finished market quilt number two using the yummy stack of brand new Fig Tree fabrics above (finished market quilt number one on Thursday evening and have one yet to make)!
I had some little scraps from
On the Bookshelf
Quilt market is just a couple of weeks away, and that means I've been working on some market sewing this week! With not much quilty goodness I can share just yet, I thought I'd share a new to me quilting book. Quilting those Flirty '30s is one of those books that has both
Farmer’s Wife Quilt Along–More Progress!
This week I made three Farmer's Wife blocks...one for my Christmas (Flurry) set and two for my Fig Tree version. This is Block 92, Streak of Lightning. I had fun trying to get the zig zag effect with this!
For the first time in over a month I got all the blocks out and had a
Fabric on Saturday
I was hoping to do another Fabric Friday post yesterday, but it just didn't happen...so here's some fabric I'm loving on Saturday! First up is the Sandi Henderson Henna Garden fat quarter collection I was able to get from her shop. Usually I miss out on fabric finds like this one, so I
Gumdrops!
Just ran in quickly today to one of my "local" quilt shops (well, an hour away either north or south is about as local as it gets for me). To my surprise, Volume Two of American Patchwork & Quilting's Sew Scrappy Quilts for Fabric Lovers was in the shop and for sale! I've been eagerly
A Little Weekend Sewing
I didn't get to sew a lot this weekend...but I did finish up a work in progress (yay)! I've needed to finish up another Charming and Cheerful bag (my own design, published in the August 2011 American Patchwork & Quilting). This bag will be a shop sample for a little while, and then I'll
How About Some Fabric?!
I've got a fabric giveaway today thanks to the folks at Robert Kaufman and Amanda Murphy, the designer of this great collection, Veranda! I have some of this terrific fabric to play with myself, and I also have two Ten-Squares and two Roll-ups to give away!
I'll keep the comments open until
Happy October First!
Happy October first! And happy Schnibbles parade day! To start off, I just had to share one of Carrie's "Full House" quilts (photo from Carrie's blog). I am seriously in love with this quilt. It's made with her Nine Dots fabric; the quilting is absolutely stunning as well. This project
Patchwork Gift Bag Tutorial
I've
been working on some little handmade gift bags to have on hand...and I
thought today I'd share a tutorial showing how I make them. They're
super easy and can be made with just a couple of fat quarters and some 2
1/2'' squares.

Last Week’s Farmer’s Wife Blocks
Last week was pretty busy, but I did manage to fit in a little time on Saturday to make my Farmer's Wife blocks. I am determined not to get behind in this quilt along, so I picked some easy blocks this week.
This is block 71, Puss in the Corner. I used some softer Fig Tree fabrics and love
Blogger’s Block of the Month
I'm excited to share my block with you for the Blogger's Block of the Month! This quilt-along was organized by Jackie of Canton Village Quilt Works; back in August she sent each participant the most gorgeous group of Kaffe fabrics from which to create our blocks. I had so many
Another Bite of Schnibbles
(Forward: Please know that I received this copy of Another Bite of Schnibbles from Martingale Publishing. I was not paid or compensated in any way to do this review).
It's no secret that I am a Schnibbles/Miss Rosie's Quilt Company/Carrie Nelson fan! I love all of
Fabric on Friday
My friend Nanette always posts the most amazing fabric collections on Fridays...I look forward to those posts every week--her stash is certainly amazing! I have a few pieces I've fallen in love with lately that I'd like to share! Above are Flour Sacks and Tossed Bread by Windham. I
In Love…
I finished my Denyse Schmidt "Swoon." I'm smitten with this quilt...absolutely in love with it! Is it odd that I love this quilt sooo much?! That Camille is a genius...this pattern is genius...and I love it in every fabric I've seen it in. Also, I'm planning another one
Secret Garden Giveaway
I'm in love with Sandi Henderson's new Secret Garden collection...I love all three color ways...Sunset Garden (pictured above), Tea Time Garden, and Midnight Garden. And today I'm happy to present a sponsored giveaway for a fat quarter bundle of one of these collections.

Slow but Steady
Progress on quilting stuff this week has been slow but steady; sometimes that's just how it has to be! I'm really trying to savor any sewing moments I have during busy days and weeks. I was really happy to get the scrappy binding machine stitched onto my Swoon quilt--seems that's the
Bittersweet…
I normally decorate with "Americana" quilts and accessories from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This year I just couldn't seem to get motivated to put them away. I finally figured out that I needed to leave them up until after September 11th; I felt much better about that,
Blogger’s Choice and Simple Summer
If you've already stopped by the Jolly Jabber this morning, these fabrics might look familiar...Last spring I had the fun of putting together a Blogger's Choice fat quarter bundle for FatQuarterShop. I was ready for summer and dreaming of the ocean when I set out to pick fabrics; I was
Hexagons and a Giveaway!
Lately I've been working with Hexagons...I just can't get enough of designs using them! These fun hexies are from the Moda collection Hometown by Sweetwater. Hometown is a terrific collection, and I've discovered they coordinate wonderfully with my Moda 1974 stash...I'll have more on
I’m Still a Farmer’s Wife
It seems like forever since I've had a chance to work on my Farmer's Wife blocks. This past week was week 15, so everyone should have 30 blocks to be caught up with the quilt-along going on around blogland. I have 33 blocks in each of my sets, so I'm okay, but I am hoping to get some
Just Around the Corner
I was recently contacted by Kari who asked if I'd be interested in reviewing a copy of her latest book, Just Around the Corner: Quilts with Easy Mitered Borders (That Patchwork Place). Of course I was thrilled to have the opportunity. I'd never actually done a mitered border (just
This and That…and a Book Tour!
I've been working on little bits of this and that (finished a couple of more blocks that I first shared here using scraps from my Swoon quilt) but just had to pop in and let you know about a blog tour going on right now...
Kari of New Leaf Stitches has written a wonderful new
Quilt in a Day!
I wonder how many of us started quilting with Quilt in a Day quilts by Eleanor Burns. I know I made about 8 quilts from her Double Irish Chain book before feeling confident enough to try other patterns. (I happened to get on an elevator with her at Spring Quilt Market, and thanked her
Happy September!
September first...wow...I can't believe it...where did June, July and August go?! Anyway, I'm happy September has arrived; hopefully the cooler fall temperatures will arrive here soon as well. And today is Schnibbles Day here at AQuiltingLife and over at Sinta's Pink Pincushion blog. We
Beginnings
I love beginnings! Fall, with the change of seasons and the start of school, is one of my favorite times of year. And Fall will arrive in just a few short weeks. Although I'll be busier than I was this summer (well, maybe--it was actually a pretty busy summer here), I seem to get
Little Bits and Pieces
This week I did some sewing with little bits and pieces--a.k.a. scraps from my stash! It really gives you a great feeling to make something from parts that could have been just thrown away. The star block above was made completely from scraps from my "Swoon" quilt. All of the
Summer Finish
Well, my Denyse Schmidt "Swoon" quilt is ready to be quilted. This is probably my last big finish before school starts next week, so I was glad to be able to get this project wrapped up!
I think I finished up my last quilt for the summer. Immediately after finishing it up I
Last Weekend…
(Just a little family vacation stuff here at the beginning...if you want, you can scroll down to see my latest "sewing" finish). In my last post I mentioned we went away for the weekend. Well...this is where we went...

Sew Obsessed–Giveaway
I just returned home today from a fun weekend trip. I wasn't able to take my sewing machine, but I did finish some handwork I started earlier this summer (I'll share that soon). For now...how about some fun cupcake fabric?!

Swoon Again!
Well...here they are..all 9 blocks. It was kind of cloudy out this morning, so the lighting isn't the best...but outside was the best place to show the blocks together. This is going to be an 80 x 80 quilt once sashing and borders are added.
I finished block 8 and block 9
Charming and Cheerful Sighting!
It was fun the other morning to find this on one of my "go-to" blogs--Quilt Taffy! I was reading along thinking, "Hey...I think that's my Charming and Cheerful Bag..." and it was!
Des made the cutest version I've seen yet (I might have to copy her)! I love the Prince Charming fabrics in this
Detours…
This weekend ended up being all about detours--quilting and otherwise. Let me explain. The first detour was a planned detour. I've been saving all of the cut corners from the flying geese blocks of my Swoon quilt. I've been stitching them together, and they trim perfectly to
Contrast
I worked on a couple more Swoon blocks...I just love the contrast in this one...it's one of my favorites!
But I love this block, too. It doesn't have the bold, striking contrast of the first block, but there is definitely enough contrast in this block to "make it work."
I have 5 blocks
Another Swoon!
Thanks so much for all of the great comments on the sneak peek for this quilt. It seems most of us have started a "spur of the moment" project because the combination of fabric and pattern just seemed to be made for each other. And yes, it's Swoon! I made this
This wasn’t on the list…
Starting a new quilt was not on my list of things to do yesterday. But, I'd had this bundle of Denyse Schmidt fabrics sitting on the shelf for a few months. And suddenly I knew what I was going to do with it.
I'm starting out with 3 blocks. 60 half-square triangles...finished.
