I had a few minutes to make some 9-patch blocks the other afternoon. The 9-patch was actually the first quilt block I ever made. When I was about 12, my mom picked up some charm squares from Cloth World for me. I made two 9-patch pillows and used them as decorations on my bed…I’d forgotten how much I loved this simple block until just the other day!
The print fabrics are all from Boho, the latest collection from Urban Chiks for Moda. I used four different light backgrounds; the polka dot is by Fig Tree & Company, and the others are all from three different Minick & Simpson collections. I know for sure that the light on the bottom left is from the latest Minick & Simpson line, Indigo Crossing. One of the others is from Bar Harbor. The lights in Minick & Simpson collections are some of my favorites to use as background fabrics.
Today is the first day of spring break, yay! Thanks so much for stopping by!

A really funny block to make.
There´s a lot of color combinations that can be done in the simpliest way.

Love the fabric combos! Inspirational!

I , too, love nine patches. They just "work" and make the word "quilt" come to its beginning meaning. Does that even make sense? LOLj
Isn't the nine-patch what started it all? LOL Oh, how I love this little block. I just added a nine-patch to an apron I made simply as a decor item.

Very nice! I just got some fabric to make a baby quilt for my son, and I've been trying to decide on a pattern. It's a fat quarter pack of farm-themed fabrics, and I think a 9-patch might go well with that.

I LOVE 9-patches — yours are adorable. Enjoy your spring break!

I like them too! Do you strip piece or piece them each individually? is it more accurate to do it one way or another? (ps – loved your book!)
Nanette Merrill says
I heart squares and 9 patch blocks are like the mother load of squares. They can take on so much depending on light/dark and fabric. Super cute.

I would love the know your thought process on this. Did you just have a little extra time and decided to make 9 patches? Do you have a plan for them, or you are just saving up for a rainy day. I want to be just like you when I grow up! I am trying to figure out this quilting thing. Should I be saving random scraps, or should I be making up blocks with them? I would love to know how you do it!
Thanks,
Jenni

Pretty! I'm totally crushing on the fabric, I really want to make 9patches now, I've just finished a disappearing 9patch, I think I'll start a normal 9patch now 🙂

Love your nine patches Sherri! It is my favorite block. There is something about the women before us sewing little nine patches of fabrics from scraps found in clothing and feed sacks that make my heart sing!

Once again, you have done a really combination. Congratulations!!!
