Hello, friends and happy September! Today I’m sharing the Saturday Seven 301: Lifestyle & More for Quilters post with a sampling of fun things I’ve found around the internet this week. I hope you’ll find some inspiration for your weekend and the week ahead. If you’re in the US, I hope you’re able to enjoy a relaxing Labor Day weekend.
We awoke yesterday to lovely rain and have it in the forecast today as well. So, it’s going to be a stay-indoors and sew kind of weekend for me. I’m planning to go through all of my fall quilts and decor and decide if there is anything I still need to sew before focusing on Christmas projects.
Saturday Seven 301: Lifestyle & More for Quilters
1. Self-Care
Being free of distractions is one of the best forms of self-care, so I loved this article with specific ideas for doing this. I also loved this piece comparing trees losing their leaves in the fall to how beneficial it can be to let things go.
2. Recipes to Try
There is still time for me to try some fresh salads before it’s officially soup weather, so I can’t wait to try this new Lemon-Orzo Salad with Veggies (I will probably add chicken to make it a meal). Once on vacation I fell in love with a delicious pretzel bread at the hotel we stayed at, so I’m going to try these No-Knead Soft Pretzel Rolls and see if I can replicate the flavor! Finally, it’s peach season, so I’m looking forward to trying this Sunrise Peach Orange Smoothie (protein is optional).
3. Quilt + Sew
The Simply Jelly Rolls Quilt Book with 16 different Jelly Roll quilt patterns from Fat Quarter Shop looks like a great one. Fat Quarter Shop is also having a terrific Labor Day Sale going on now here. Finally, these posts on fall quilts have ideas for your fall quilting:

5. Book and Podcast Recommendations
I just finished my first novel on my new Kindle Paperwhite. Tom Lake by Ann Patchett was a lovely read. I’m planning to always have a novel ready to read on the Kindle–and hopefully I’ll get more fiction read this way! And my favorite podcast episode this week was this one from Greg McKeown–you can apply his 1-2-3 Method to work, home, and even quilting!
6. Ideas for Home
Clean Mama just shared this easy to make DIY Soft Scrub cleaner. And there were several things I learned in this post about cooking techniques. Also, I hadn’t heard of the 12-12-12 method until just recently. It seems like a great method for getting the home ready for the fast-approaching busy season. And I also think it would work great for doing some cleaning in the sewing room. (Plus, I love the idea of starting with 3-3-3 –that seems so much more doable)!

Hello Sherri:
I have been following your blog and also the Facebook group for almost a year. I have not quilted before although I have sewed clothing and curtains in past years. I promised myself I would begin this hobby when I retired so I have saved each of the BOM for 2023 and have enjoyed seeing so many quilters interpretation of fabric choices. Your blog this week discussed small projects and since I just retired on August 4, I am going to start with your Simple Potholder pattern. I purchased from Etsy, bought the batting and now time to start to cut my squares. Wish me luck! Thank you for all the encouragement you give in your blogs and in your videos!

Sherri, do try the Orange Peach Smoothie. I made it for my husband and myself the other day, and it was delicious. We’re in the process of canning peaches but I’ve decided to freeze some, too, so we can make more smoothies.

I love all your projects. Do you have the pattern you could share for your fall large wall hanging quilt with the black bird, pumpkins, maple leafs, 4-patch blocks, sunflower? I would love to make something similar but it would be great to have your pattern for measurements. thankyou for all that you post, and your creative, lovely quilt projects. I bought your pattern for the Happy Go Lucky quilt, which i’m in the middle of making the Churn blocks. I can’t wait to get it finished to hang on my wall. And would also love to make & hang your large fall quilt if you could share your pattern.
