Hello, friends, happy Monday, and happy first day of April! Today I’m sharing the Quilt Block of the Month April 2024. This month’s block has a unit that some find a little challenging. So I’ve got a tutorial for you with two different methods to make the Cat’s Cradle Unit. Keep reading for all of the details for this month’s block.

Quilt Block of the Month April 2024
April Block Details
The April block has a center made up of two half-square triangle and square units and two Cat’s Cradle units. Some find the triangles for a cat’s cradle unit challenging, so in this month’s video I share two different methods for making this part of the block. If you are interested in the Cat’s Cradle Ruler I use in the video, you can find it below (it can be used for 6 different sizes of blocks).
2024 Quilt Block of the Month Sew Along Details
- Find the informational post about this year’s BOM program here (fabric requirements can also be found on this post).
- This year’s blocks will feature both 16″ and 8″ finished sizes of blocks.
- There will be a setting for each size quilt provided in early December 2024.
- This year block patterns and videos will be available on the first Monday of each month here on the blog. I will also post a video that day on our YouTube channel where I’ll go into more detail about the month’s block and share tutorials.
- I will be making my quilt using our Strawberry Lemonade collection which will be available in stores in early 2024 (pictured throughout this post).
- I’m sewing along with the tone on tone from Strawberry Lemonade. Moda Bella 9900-200 is also a great background option if you are using this fabric collection.
- Find more solids that coordinate with Strawberry Lemonade on this post.
- Find the January post with the January pattern link here.
- And find the February post with the February pattern link here.

Outer Star Coloring
I’ve had several requests to see which fabrics I’ll be using for my outer star points for the remainder of the year. The image above shows my original plan. (I can’t guarantee I won’t make a small change here or there, but this is my plan).
Be sure to stop by on Monday, May 6th for the next block in this quilt along. Thanks so much for stopping by for the Quilt Block of the Month April 2024 post.
Happy quilting!

What about the outer star blocks for the smaller size (8″) blocks? Do you have a plan for those as well?
Thanks

I am just deciding the outer border for the smaller blocks as I go…no real plan for those yet!
Ella'sNan says
I guess I’ll just wing it as I go then too! LOL
Thanks!
Nilda says
Thank you for the pdf. Really pretty block and not too hard. 🙂

Thanks for the video and the diagram of your color plan fir the outer borders of the blocks.
Could you also share the dimensions of the borders? Both inner narrow and outer border??
I need to cut mine from the background fabric before I use it for the piecings and want to use the length of the fabric instead of cutting crosswise. I also need to order fabric for the outer border abd want it lengthwise also. Hope that makes sense! Thanks so very much for these fun blocks and all your work to produce the block of thr month!

I’m having trouble printing the pattern from the link. Is it posted anywhere else?
janet young says
would be nice if the blocks varied from month to month to many HST and flying geese maybe some applique or paper piecing
