March Favorites + Moda Blockheads 5
Moda Blockheads 5 (Round 2) Block 14
This week’s Moda Blockheads 5 block is the Radiant StarFire block by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic. Brigitte’s block is a striking block made with foundation paper piecing. I do intend to make this one but just didn’t have time to get it done this week. Find the pattern below and also find a link to my YouTube video tutorial for foundation paper piecing this type of block.

March Favorites
Things have been busy here–most of February was spent sewing the Laguna Sunrise quilts, and I spent most of March sharing them (I still have one more to share, too)! So, today’s March Favorites will include a few things from February since that post never got written before March rolled around!
Most Read Posts in March
Below you’ll find the top posts from the month of March. You’ll note that several of them relate to the American Patchwork & Quilting and EQ – sponsored Sew Along with my Heart of the Home quilt featured on the cover of the April 2024 issue. It’s been so exciting for me to see so many people sewing along and making this quilt which is definitely one of my favorites to date! (I’m working on a nine-block wall hanging now with our Laguna Sunrise fabrics).

Made in March…
Most of my March sewing has been on a few upcoming projects that I can’t share just yet. But early in the month I made a table runner that led to me making a quilt and a wall hanging and writing a pattern that hadn’t been on my schedule: Tulip & Vine. Those projects are all on display in my home now and are bringing such a spring vibe as I walk by them.
My Favorite Things from February and March
February and March were both whirlwind months with lots of sewing, visits from family, and a couple of quick trips out of town. Here are some of my favorites in list form:
- Weather–two beautiful months with higher than average rain have been so good for my spirit!
- A little travel–I was able to travel to Temecula, California to lecture and teach for the Valley of the Mist Quilt Guild. I was also able to take a quick trip to Salt Lake City with my two daughters and two future daughters-in-law!
- Laguna Sunrise Photo Shoot in February–I take most of my own photos, so it’s always a treat when I get to have a professional photographer take pictures!
- Favorite reads in February and March were Slow Productivity by Cal Newport and The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod.
- Feeling a little more organized! I’ve been slowly making progress on some spring cleaning tasks and feeling like they are starting to pay off…I’ll definitely be sharing some of the progress in my sewing room in an upcoming post.
Coming Soon!
Stay tuned for a fun scrappy quilt project I’m sewing and sharing beginning tomorrow. My stash is a little crazy right now, so I decided it was time for a scrap quilt intervention! Can’t wait to share my first week’s blocks with you!
Finally, thanks so much for stopping by to read my March Favorites + Moda Blockheads 5 post. If you’re looking for more of my favorites from previous months, you can find all of the earlier posts in this series here.
Happy quilting!

Hello Sherri….
Once again, I want to tell you how much I enjoy seeing all of the projects both you and Chelsi create. I also enjoy your podcasts which include Billy. Thank you for all you do.
The other thing is….I could not find where the BH5, Part 2, Block 14 is.
Thank you for your kind help, and I hope you are enjoying your day.

Hi Sherri,
I so enjoy your posts and videos! I am getting into a good routine and are completing UFOs weekly. To keep me perked up, I’m doing the 2024 BOM, Block Heads, and Quilt Along using Strawberry Lemonade for something fresh and new, but paced so I don’t get carried away by my “WIIMMs.” (Wonderful Ideas In My Mind.) Also, I can’t break from the “Teacher Plans” I lived by for so many years, so I made myself a weekly Google doc to keep me on track, (including days of new posts of yours.) I’ve even added “Tidy Time” so I keep up on straightening things up frequently. Thank you for your practical suggestions and fun way of presenting everything!
