Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing my Half Square Triangle Scrap Quilt Blocks 16 + 17. I’m actually almost finished up with all of the blocks for this quilt and can’t wait to share them all with you. I really need to figure out how I’m going to set them, too. I might use a different setting than the ones included in my pattern. Keep reading for all of the details on this week’s blocks.
Half Square Triangle Scrap Quilt Blocks 16 + 17
Block 16 + 17 Details
Block 16 was a super fun one to make. As I sewed this group of blocks, I kept looking for ways to put similar colors together to make even more apparent the patterns in the individual blocks. I combined similar yellow, teal, and aqua prints to make larger triangles in block 16. And then I also decided to use four different greens to make the pinwheel center stand out.
Block 17 was also super fun to use with similar prints paired together to create the elongated diamond shapes.
How to Sew Along
Sewing along is simple! I won’t be sharing any more videos until my quilt is finished up, but I’ll be sharing the block designs here weekly on Fridays. Find two new blocks per week each Friday until the final set of blocks are shared on Friday, June 20th! The block layout patterns are free and can be downloaded here each week, and the full pattern with block and quilt construction details and two different layout options is available in my shop. Tips for Half Square Triangles
- Make half-square triangles my favorite way by sizing up and trimming to your desired size.
- Use half-square triangle paper in your preferred size to make several identical half square triangles at a time.
- Use project left-overs as I’ve done in sewing triangles together from other projects and then trim as needed.
If your scrap bin is overflowing, I hope you’ll join in! I am making my blocks using 2″ finished half-square triangles, and I might end up doing an original setting with them…we’ll see how it goes!
Thanks so much for stopping by for the Half Square Triangle Scrap Quilt Blocks 16 + 17. Check in next Friday with the next set of blocks.
Happy quilting!
