Hello friends! Today I’m sharing the Half Square Triangle Scrap Quilt Blocks 4 + 5. It was so much fun to see all of the comments last week on this project and to find that many of you will now have a good way to get your half square triangles out of your scrap bin. I’m getting a little system going now that is really helping me with this–details below!

Blocks 4 + 5 Details
It’s always so much fun for me to see all of the incredible pattern options with half-square triangles. For most of my blocks I’ve been trying to vary the prints as much as possible, but this week I did a couple of fun things:
- In block 4 I repeated the same navy print but with different low-volume prints as the other half of the hst.
- And in block 5 I used two of the same in each corner with one different print in between from the same color family. I felt like this gave a little continuity to this block.
- I’ve also got a little system going now where I trim at least 4 half-square triangles each day. This way I have a good stash ready to go each week when I begin sewing blocks. I haven’t had to do any sewing yet since I had so many ready to trim. But I might need to sew a few just so I can include some collections I haven’t seen in the scrap bins.
How to Sew Along
Sewing along is simple! I won’t be sharing any more videos until my quilt is finished up, but I’ll be sharing the block designs here weekly on Fridays after this week. This week you can download the images for blocks 4 + 5. I’ll share two blocks per week each Friday beginning next week. And the final set of blocks will be shared on Friday, June 20th!
Tips for Making Half Square Triangles
If you’re new to making half-square triangles, you have several options:
- Make half-square triangles my favorite way by sizing up and trimming to your desired size.
- Use half-square triangle paper in your preferred size to make several identical half square triangles at a time.
- Use project left-overs as I’ve done in sewing triangles together from other projects and then trim as needed.
If your scrap bin is overflowing, I hope you’ll join in! I am making my blocks using 2″ finished half-square triangles, and I might end up doing an original setting with them…we’ll see how it goes!
Thanks so much for stopping by for today’s Half Square Triangle Scrap Quilt Blocks 4 + 5 post. I’ll be back next Friday with the next two blocks in the series.
Happy quilting!
