Hello, friends, and thanks so much for stopping by for my Half Square Triangle Scrap Quilt Blocks 6 + 7 post! I’ve got details and photos of this week’s blocks along with a free PDF download for the half square triangle layout for both of this week’s blocks. If you’re new here, you’ll also find the details for beginning now to make this fun scrappy quilt.
Half Square Triangle Scrap Quilt Blocks 6 + 7
Block 6 + 7 Details
This week’s block layouts are simple and classic–but also very fun! Block 6 features all of the half-square triangles placed in the same direction, and block 7 showcases the half-square triangles with a zig-zag design. I used 16 different prints in a variety of colors for block 6. And I used two different prints from the same color shade for each section of the zig zag units to create interest.
How to Sew Along
Sewing along is simple! I won’t be sharing any more videos until my quilt is finished up, but I’ll be sharing the block designs here weekly on Fridays after this week. This week you can download the images for blocks 6 + 7. I’ll share two blocks per week each Friday until the final set of blocks are shared on Friday, June 20th! While the block layout patterns are free and can be downloaded here each week, there is also an option to purchase the full pattern now with block and quilt construction details and two different layout options.
- Read the introductory post with blocks 1-3 here.
- Find the post with blocks 4 + 5 here.
- Download this week’s block layouts here.
- Purchase the full pattern in paper or PDF here.
Tips for Half-Square Triangles
Below you’ll find some tips for making half-square triangles that will be especially helpful if you are new to this technique:
- Make half-square triangles my favorite way by sizing up and trimming to your desired size.
- Use half-square triangle paper in your preferred size to make several identical half square triangles at a time.
- Use project left-overs as I’ve done in sewing triangles together from other projects and then trim as needed.
If your scrap bin is overflowing, I hope you’ll join in! I am making my blocks using 2″ finished half-square triangles, and I might end up doing an original setting with them…we’ll see how it goes!
Be sure to visit here next Friday where I’ll share blocks 8 and 9.
Happy quilting!
