Hello, friends! Thanks so much for stopping by for the Saturday Seven 325: Lifestyle and More for Quilters post. Each Saturday I share a fun round-up of things I’ve found earlier in the week from across the internet.
At home this weekend I’ll be doing a major cleaning in my studio. I’m doing photography on Monday with new quilts and projects and want everything to be clean throughout the room. I’m also hoping to get a little sewing in as well. I hope you’re able to have a wonderful weekend.
Saturday Seven 325: Lifestyle and More for Quilters
1. Self-Care
I loved this post with fun ideas and ways to “Enjoy Your Life Now.” And These “10 5-Minute Habits to Improve Your Life Today” are wonderful ideas as well! I’m also continuing to read Stress Resets and love all of the helpful ideas it contains.
2. Recipes to Try
This week we had the most amazing Spicy Maple-Glazed Salmon that came in our Home Chef box. If you want to try Home Chef, use this link to get $35 off your first box. (Or use the code SHERRIM776 at checkout). And I’ve been wanting to try this Red-and-White Mostaccioli for a while now…hopefully this weekend!
3. Quilt and Sew
My friends at Fat Quarter Shop recently shared this great post with Tips for Adding a Quilt Label. (This is definitely something I need to do better at)! And if you’re looking for some spring sewing inspiration, you’ll definitely enjoy this scrappy spring quilts post and this spring quilts and projects round-up post!
4. Book and Podcast Recommendations
I haven’t yet listened to this one, but it’s next on my list: Curate Your Media Consumption from Best of Both Worlds. And after that I’ll be listening to Thoughts on Resting Well from Sarah Hart Unger. And I’m super excited to start Peak Mind: Find Your Focus, Own Your Attention, Invest 12 Minutes a Day after I finish my current book.
5. Strawberry Lemonade Fabrics Update + Heart of the Home
Thank you so much for the overwhelming positive response to our Strawberry Lemonade fabrics arriving in stores. We’re so happy you are finally able to sew with it. I also appreciate the overwhelmingly positive response to my new Heart of the Home quilt featured on the cover of American Patchwork & Quilting‘s April 2024 issue. While the kits have sold out, you’ll still be able to sew along and make the quilt with the following:
- Find a fat quarter bundle for the print pieces of the blocks. A fat eighth bundle and a Layer Cake will also work. Two Honeybuns and a Layer Cake provide another option. Find some pre-cuts available now here.
- Add 2 ½ yards of background fabric for your inner border, sashing, and block centers. I used Moda Bella 9900-200 for the white portions of my quilt.
- Add an additional 1 ½ yards of lights for the log cabin light sections (you’ll also use some of the background fabric for these blocks.
- Choose border and binding fabrics. (I do have some yardage of the collection available here.
- And finally, find more Bella Solid Coordinates for the Strawberry Lemonade collection here.
6. Organizing and Productivity
I’ve been doing a bit of home-editing as of late and loved this post on “30 Areas of Life Where Subtracting Can Add More.” And if you love pretty notebooks and accessories for your organizing, Emily Ley is having a good sale right now here.

I am *so* excited for the Heart of the Home quilt!! I’m an APQ subscriber and when I got my issue, I literally just flipped right to that pattern and never even read the rest of the issue. Soooo excited for this one!! (Also, p.s., one of the podcast links above takes you to Sarah Unger’s rather than Laura’s. I found the podcast through a google search but just FYI). XO 🤗

I am sew excited for the the upcoming Heart of the Home QAL. I bought the digital version of the pattern and will be using a huge collection of Bonnie and Camille fabrics that I’ve been collecting for four years. I am jumping ahead and already picking fabrics for my blocks centers, starching my FQs and cutting. Thanks for all you do for the quilting community! ❤️

Thank you for all the good information. I plan to incorporate the 5 minute habits into my daily life. The salmon sounds so good! Yesterday I watched Jenny Down demonstrate making a quilt and she was using Strawberry Lemonade fabrics. I don’t very often recognize the fabric line and designer, but I did this time and that made it extra fun for me. Such beautiful fabrics!

Thank you so much for the tips on fabric selection for the QAL. I have a fat qtr bundle of Strawberry Lemonade, which I really wanted to use for the quilt, but wasn’t sure how to make it work going by the “fabric needed” in the pattern instructions. Your tips are very helpful!

Hi Sherri,
I just wanted to tell you I love your potluck pattern. I started with that pattern, made it bigger and put a plate in each open square. I used a Christmas fabric line. My family calls it my masterpiece. I wish I could show it to you. Thanks for the great pattern!! I’m loving all the information you give in your Saturday 7 also!!

I love that you did that! Thank you so much!

Dear Sherri,
I have never said thank you before, but I want you to know that I appreciate your UTube and A Quilting Life.com. I am just learning to quilt after being a dressmaker for 60+ years, your patterns seem to hard for me but I love your fabrics and ideas. Even though I haven’t used your patterns, I always learn something from your programs.
Thank you again with continued blessings,
Barbara Hewitt
