Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing my brand-new Heart of the Home Log Cabin Quilt which is featured in the April 2024 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this quilt. Heart of the Home just arrived back to me the other day, and I am so happy to have it back! There are lots of fun details about this quilt, so keep reading to learn about the quilt and the upcoming sew along you won’t want to miss!
Heart of the Home Log Cabin Quilt Details
First, I’m excited to share some details about this quilt. It’s definitely one of my all-time favorites. Heart of the Home finishes at 77 ½″ x 77 ½″. This quilt is fat eighth, fat quarter, Honeybun, and scrap friendly! You’ll have a lot of options when choosing fabrics. I used our Strawberry Lemonade collection (available in stores now). My friend Valerie Krueger free-hand long-arm quilted this for me. I love every detail she added.
Heart of the Home Quilt Along
Next, plan to join the sew along for this quilt sponsored by EQ! Join American Patchwork & Quilting staff members and fellow readers February 29 – April 24 to make your own version. Find details for the sew along on page 52 of the issue. (I’ll be sharing more about that here as well in the upcoming weeks). Additionally, you can find more specifics and details here (including specific fabric requirements).
Heart of the Home Video
Watch the Heart of the Home video above to learn even more about this quilt. You’ll see an up-close view of the quilt and hear about some fabric options for sewing your own version.
Finally, thanks so much for stopping by to see my Heart of the Home Log Cabin Quilt! I hope you’ll be joining in for the sew-along. I’m actually going to make a wall hanging version with some other fun fabrics.
Happy quilting!

What a fun project and to be able to download it to EQ8! I have been using EQ8 for quite a few years and I am so excited to have your quilt downloaded in EQ8. That makes it so simple to do. Thank you so much for doing this. I hope to see other projects incorporated into EQ8. I look forward to this quilt and using EQ8 too!
Jessica Bolton says
So beautiful! I love this and cant wait to start. I have downloaded the blocks to EQ8 already. Can you tell me when the kits will be available? Would the FQB be enough fabric to get through all the blocks? Thanks and congrats!

Just when I thought I wasn’t going to sign myself up for any more projects, I find this beauty and from one of my favorite people, Sherri. Please tell us: How many FQ’s do we need? When will kits be available? I guess quilt along will be on your YouTube channel- when?
Can’t wait to order fabric & receive my magazine. Thank you!!!!
Ruma C says
I have to be honest, I was never before a fan of the Log Cabin because I felt it was very old fashioned. But I subscribe to METime’s Perfectly Pieced where you make quilt blocks in-the-hoop on embroidery machines and the January box was a beautiful & modern Log Cabin block. I was like, wow, Log Cabin actually looks great in modern fabrics! Your quilt looks very fresh and in such beautiful summery fabrics that I just may have to make one!
BTW I have your video on how to make a hidden back zipper for pillows saved and am so happy to be able to make zipper back pillows now!
dianne m says
Love this Sherri!!
Barbara S says
So beautiful!! Congratulations on this beautiful quilt being on the cover of APQ, can’t wait to get my copy and start.
Elizabeth says
Hi Sherri, Congratulations! I am curious about EQ8. Is it relatively standard that quilt designers have a way to download/import their patterns into EQ8 or is it more common that you “redesign” the quilt in EQ8 and then play with the fabric swatch and color placement? Thanks!
sherri McConnell says
I use EQ8 to design my quilts from the very beginning.
Elizabeth says
Oh, I asked my question very poorly. As a quilter that wants to play with color placement, would I generally be able to import a file (like EQ8 is offering for your APQ sew along) and then color it or is it more standard that I need to draw the quilt in EQ8 before coloring it? Thank you!
sherri McConnell says
For this project you’d be able to import the file. And EQ does have lots of quilts available that you can do that with.
But generally, I use the program to draw my own quilts. Thank you!
Susan Wade says
All of your kits for this beautiful quilt sold out very quickly! Will you be offering more kits? Pretty please!
Lisa Hjulberg says
Hi Sherri! I love this quilt! I have the magazine and have reviewed the fabric requirements. I think a fat quarter bundle would work, wouldn’t it, with additional yardage as indicated? I happen to have a strawberry lemonade fq bundle. Thanks!
sherri McConnell says
Yes, it will! And you’ll have left-overs for some other small projects!
Lisa Keller says
Where are the kits available?
Rebecca Stevens says
What is the difference in white tone on tone No. 1, white tone on tone No. 2 inner border, And also solid white for sashing? SKU numbers would be helpful. In the picture all the white looks alike unfortunately. Thanks!! Also will the white prints in Favorite Things work with Strawberry Lemonade if more lights are needed for the log cabins. I think this is going to be a fun SAL.
sherri McConnell says
Hi Rebecca,
The solid white is Bella 9900 200. I did use it for sashing and the inner border and the block centers with the houses, hearts, and stars. The tone on tone is the print with the collection that is white on white. And yes, light/white prints from Favorite Things, Simply Delightful, and even Emma will work with the lights in Strawberry Lemonade.
