Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing My 2025 Scrap Quilting Plans. I recently saw where Kimberly Jolly shared some of her 2025 sewing plans and thought it would be fun to share mine with a focus on the scrap quilts I want to make. I’m currently sewing with some new fabrics, but as soon as I can I’m going to get back to my scrappy sewing. Also, nearly all of the quilts and projects I’m sharing here are actually free projects. Keep reading and also watch today’s video for all of the details.
My 2025 Scrap Quilting Plans
Village and Strippy Spools Scrap Quilts
Two scrap quilts that I’m definitely planning to finish this year are my Village quilt and a new Fat Quarter Shop quilt, Strippy Spools. I started my Village quilt several years ago and nearly finished it in 2024; however, I decided to wait for just one more fabric collection before finishing it up. I am hoping to share this one with you in March at the latest, hopefully in February.
And the Strippy Spools quilt is a fun new (and free) pattern coming soon from Fat Quarter Shop. I got an early copy of the pattern to sew my quilt.
Honeybun and Low-Volume Scrap Quilts
I also started a scrappy Honeybun scrap quilt several years ago that I’d really like to finish this year. I even have a free tutorial showing how to make these simple blocks.
Another bucket-list project of mine is to make a completely low-volume scrap quilt. I’m thinking about using the lap quilt option from our free pattern Lovely Stars Lap Quilt and Tablerunner. I really hope to completely finish this one as well.
Scrappy Trip and Orphan Blocks Scrap Quilts
I’ve made two Scrappy Trip Around the World quilts using the Bonnie Hunter method, and last summer I started a new one. Soon after beginning that project I started doing a lot of sewing with our Raspberry Summer collection for quilt market last fall. It sort of slipped my mind, actually, so I was glad to find my blocks when doing some sorting in my sewing room. I’m also thinking about trying to get some of my leftover or orphan blocks put into a scrap quilt or quilts this year as I shared in the video.
HST and Gumdrops Scrap Quilts
I’ve also made several scrappy Half Square Triangle quilts over the years and most recently made one in 2024. While I don’t plan to make one of these this year, it’s a great option for those of you who might be saving left over half square triangles from a variety of projects. In today’s video I also shared my original Gumdrops quilt (find more details on that quilt here). It’s a terrific beginner scrappy quilt project.
Grandma’s Scrap Quilt and Log Cabin Scrap Quilts
Another scrap quilt I shared in today’s video was inspired by a scrap quilt of my grandmothers. And I have a free PDF download to make that quilt as well. And finally, a large log cabin scrap quilt is another terrific option for those of you wanting a fast and fun scrap quilt project.

Thank you for sharing some ideas for using up scraps. I certainly have enough to make lots of scrappy quilts! No set plans yet, but I like your idea of trying to do one each quarter. We’ll see how 2025 progresses. I’m really enjoying the current quilt along.

It’s downloadable from the Monday, January 6th post. Just go to blog and scroll down until you see that post. Fabric requirements are also available on that post.

Hi Sherri,
Love your scrap quilts! I’d like to know where you got the white bins with the wooden tops on them please. They look like a great way to organize fabrics. Thank you!
