Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing all of the details for my Moda Blockheads 5 Quilt finish. I picked this up from my quilter last Thursday and got it bound over the weekend. This truly might be one of my favorite scrap quilts I’ve ever made. I love each and every block, and I’m so in love with the fussy-cut Dresdens from our Raspberry Summer collection I sprinkled throughout. The Dresdens added little sparkles of navy that really added a fun pizazz to my quilt. Keep reading for all of my finishing details.
Moda Blockheads 5 Quilt Finish
Below find all of the details on my king-size quilt layout. This really did come together for me kind of at the end of the sew-along. I knew I wanted to try to make a king-size quilt with my blocks but really wanted something a little different, too. It wasn’t until after I realized I could fussy-cut the Dresdens from our Raspberry Summer Dresden fabric into perfect 6 ½″ squares that I really figured out what I was going to do.
Quilt Details
- My quilter, Marion Bott, used a pattern called “Cosmos” on this.
- This quilt finishes at 108″ wide by 94″ long which is perfect for my standard king bed.
- Use (28) 12″ finished blocks along with (56) 6″ finished blocks for my setting.
- I used (27) fussy cut Dresdens along with (29) 6″ finished blocks in my quilt.
- You could also use 6 ½″ squares of a favorite fabric in place of the Dresdens.
- This quilt uses 3 yards sashing (I used a tone on tone from our Bountiful Blooms collection).
- This quilt uses 1 ⅔ yard for the outer border (I used the Raspberry Summer floral on aqua) for this.
- You’ll also need ¾ yard for binding (I used the Raspberry Summer green gingham).
- Backing will depend on the width of your fabric. I was able to use our Strawberry Lemonade Grandmother’s Flower Garden cheater print for my backing which saved quite a bit of yardage!
- Remember that you can find direct links to all of the blocks for this sew along from this post.

LOVE your BH5 quilt Sherri!!! I have always liked sampler quilts that mix block sizes and then your mixture of fabrics is absolutely gorgeous. I also love how you pulled fabrics from so many of your collections to put this quilt together…..it shows just how much you can mix and match within your fabric collections.

What a BEAUTIFUL BH5 quilt!! Thanks for the “pattern” making a large bed-sized quilt! I’m always looking for a pattern to fit our queen bed and this would work for that, too! So cool how you could work the new fabric line, Raspberry Summer into this quilt 😉
Thanks for all you do Sherri!!

Stunning! You are amazing! I love your blog…you keep me inspired to improve my quilt making skills (I have only pieced two quilts). Thank you for all you do to help all of us that are beginning to learn the art.

This really turned out beautifully! Would love to see it on your bed, so I can see the overhang and decide if it is enough, or if I need bigger borders! Thanks for sharing!

I did take a picture of it on my bed that I’ll share soon. But mattresses are all so different now that I suggest you make the quilt center and then decide on borders.

Are you going to sell the complete pattern? Or just the individual blocks. I love the finished quilt.

The blocks are all free from Moda from the link on the post. And my setting is free too!
