Moda Blockheads 5 Block 23

Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing the Moda Blockheads 5 Block 23 blocks and details. I have block photos of my blocks in two sizes, tips, and all of the resource links for this sew along. Keep reading for all of the details! This week’s block does involve some foundation paper piecing, but it’s just a portion of the block–very doable even for beginners!

Block 23 Block Details + Tips

I’ve passed on a few blocks in this sew along because I’ve had some busy times where I just didn’t feel like I could take the time for a fully foundation-pieced block. But this week’s use of traditional piecing and foundation piecing looked so doable with my schedule. And it was! I really love this design from Sarah Watts of Ruby Star Society. Find a couple of my tips below:

• Be sure to save the PDF to your computer and then choose the “print full size” option when printing. You can double check that your block printed correctly by measuring to make sure that the small block measures 3 ½″ x 3 ½″ (including seam allowance) and that the large block unit measures 6 ½″ x 6 ½″ (also including seam allowance).
• A lot of fabrics meet at the point of the block. Be sure to trim after sewing each strip to reduce bulk here.
• Make sure you have contrast between all of the different fabrics in your block.
