Hello, friends! Happy Monday! Today I’m going to discuss all things small quilts! I’m especially going to focus on how to hang small quilts, and I have a short video to show my preferred method. But I also have some tips to share for mini quilts in general!
How to Hang Small Quilts
One of the most common questions I get asked is how to hang small quilts. For larger quilts I add a nearly full-width sleeve to the back if I know I will be hanging it, but for mini and small quilts I have a much simplified method (that uses less fabric as well).

Watch the short video above to get my tips and tricks for hanging smaller quilts (or watch it here on my YouTube channel). I’ve linked the quilt patterns shown in the video below for your convenience:

More on Mini Quilts
I love mini quilts and have been really excited to start hanging mine up in my new sewing room. This is a project on the list for this week, and I’ll be sure to share pictures as soon as I get them on the walls! But I also have some posts on mini quilts that you might enjoy reading.
- Read my Best Tips for Mini Quilts post here.
- Since seam allowance accuracy is even more important in mini quilts, read my Tips for Accurate Measuring and Cutting here.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post on How to Hang Small Quilts. Happy quilting, and thanks so much for stopping by!

OK so this idea is too cool. I will be incorporating this into all my small quilts and including the dowel when I give small/minis as gifts. If I really like the person I’ll also include command hooks. 🙂 Also if anyone has any suggestions, I am on the hunt for a new sewing machine. I have a ton of projects in the works and my old piece of you-know-what died. I’ve scoured the internet and found there are so many choices that all I got was overwhelmed. Budget is around $1500 and although I do use my machine for piecing, quilting and applique I don’t need a machine that includes a thousand decorative stitches. Ideas anyone?

I absolutely love my Juki TL2010Q. It’s only a straight stitch machine but it’s a work horse. Perfect stitches every time. I don’t miss having a zillion stitches as this machine is designed as a home version of an industrial machine. Piecing and quilting on this is like putting a hot knife through butter. Sweet!
Jackie says
YES! This was already on my short list…the hot knife through butter brought it up to what just might be my new machine! Thank you Nancy!

Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to hang a spring quilt and couldn’t figure out a way that I could do it easily.

I have used the triangle in the corner as my quilt label. I write the name/date on the label after I finish the binding. Love this idea!
How do you hang the wooden rack I see in your posting? Can you use the hooks you can peal off the wall?
Helen L says
Thanks for the video Sherri. That is a really good way to hang small quilts. I’ve used the push pins and found that here (the SF bay area) we have just enough humidity that some push pins have actually rusted. Luckily I had just used them for hanging a block on the wall and it had stayed there for several months, but I’ll never use them again!!

Thank you for the great tutorial on how to hang our mini quilts…yep…ive been using push pins
Could you tell me what pattern the middle quilt hanging on the ladder is please.
Thank you

Any tips for small quilts that have already had the binding attached?
Stephanie says
I too enjoyed these suggestions and will be incorporating the corners on future small quilts. But like Carol, I’m wondering if you have any suggestions for already completed projects. I have several completed table runners that I would like to hang for space saving.
Any suggestions are welcome.

If any of you have tried this method can you tell me which command hooks you used?
