It’s been quite a long time since I’ve shared my Farmer’s Wife quilt. Actually, I gave it to my quilter a little while ago and told her I wasn’t in any hurry for it (with 100+ degree temperatures the last several months I knew I wouldn’t be needing this quilt for a little while)! Anyway, I received a wonderful phone call the other day that it was ready.
I made all of the blocks from the book The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired
(one block is on the back with the label), and my quilt is king-sized. One of the things I love about this quilt is that all of the blocks were pieced from my Fig Tree scrap bins. I used nearly every Fig Tree collection up until Honeysweet. Some of the really simple blocks are my favorites, and Andrea’s quilting makes every block shine (thank you, Andrea)!
There are so many blocks and so many fun things to see on this quilt–I think I’ll be discovering new favorite blocks for awhile!
I actually used a really old Fig Tree print for the binding. I have it sewn on and ready to stitch…I’ll be sure to share a picture when I’ve finished up the hand work.
It’s so funny, though…getting my quilt back sort of makes me want to make another one…guess I’d better find another sampler to start working on!
I know this is a little photo overload today…
One of my favorite blocks…so simple and yet so elegant!
And I absolutely love this basket block!
Thanks so much for letting me share this again…it’s been a two year journey with this quilt! Although I love to piece fast and fun quilts, there is just something about a quilt like this. These quilts that take months and even years will always hold a special place in my heart.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Thank you so much for sharing your FW. I love the close ups of the quilting. I am just now putting the sashing on my 111 blocks. I deviated from the book whenever I came across a different block that I liked. I didn't use the book's templates. Hate templates. When I am ready to quilt this I will be referencing your pictures for ideas. Love your blog!

Can you tell me what fabric you used for the background? It looks like it's "white" but could it be cream? I can't tell….?

Thanks for sharing.

Your quilt is beautiful Sherri.

That is just lovely!
I purchased this book the other day and am trying not to read it all in one sitting, just enjoying a bit at a time.
I'm torn as to which direction I'm going to take fabric-wise…part of me is leaning towards being totally eclectic and using only my scraps, but then part of me is looking towards new/fun fabric lines.
I love all the white against the bright fun fabrics you used…I may have to do something similar!
