School started Monday, and I have a wonderful new group of English 101 students that will keep me busy this semester. So we decided to make one last little getaway over the weekend and visited family in northern Utah. I had to share a picture of their newly completed waterfall…seriously, going to sleep and waking up to the sound of the water was the next best thing to being at the beach!
On the way up I was able to drop off my recently finished Tula Pink quilt to Abby who quilted it for me over the weekend (I really, really appreciated that, Abby)!
I have to share one picture of the back…a mix of Moda Bella Aqua and some of the scraps left over from the quilt front. I just love the way the bubble circles look on the back.
Of course I love the way this quilt design looks on the front too…with so many squares and so many ocean – themed prints I thought this would be a fun all-over design for this quilt.
Abby’s did a beautiful job on the quilt, and her edge to edge patterns are only .01 per inch, too…so it’s a terrific deal (if you’re not in the area you can also ship your quilts to her).
I love how it turned out…can’t wait to get this one bound and put it in the washing machine!
Of course, first I have to decide on binding. I’m trying to decide between a solid navy or a scrappy binding with some of the left-over blue prints.
Binding on this quilt is going rather slowly. Since this is only the 5th king-sized quilt I’ve made, and since it’s been several years since I made one…I seem to have forgotten how long it takes to get around each side! I did get ¼ of the way around the quilt while in Utah this weekend!
What are you working on this Wednesday? Thanks so much for stopping by.

Sherri your Farmer's Wife is out of this world! Love your Tula Pink…perfect quilting design!

I had no idea you had an outside job in addition to all the quilting you do. Amazing!

Binding a king-size quilt does take a long time. I always start with the corners to get them out of the way, and then I do the sides between them. Along the way, all that shifting of the quilt around helps me lose track so I try not to pay attention to how much I've done/have left. That way it doesn't seem so long. Silly, I know, but it seems to work for me. I'm working on my Schnibble for this month today!

I love those bubbles too! Do a scrappy binding, I think that would look great!

So you apparently teach at the university level??? Wishing you a great school year. If you are taking votes…I vote for a scrappy binding…the quilt is lovely. Keep going on your handstitched binding…it is gorgeous. Today I will work some more on a wool tablerunner I am making for a Christmas present…however, my new pattern SHINE is calling to me from the sewing room.

Both sides of the quilt are stunning. Solid or scrappy binding will work. Something about that hand stitching can be relaxing…as long as you aren't trying to meet a deadline.
Have a great semester!

a scrappy binding would make the white in your quilt really pop!! love it!

Both your Farmer's Wife and Tula Pink quilts are beautiful. I think either the solid navy or the scrappy binding would be great, but I vote for the navy.
I am working on health care paperwork today. 🙁 But I hope to cut fabric later on for 2 quilts!

It's more like what I am NOT working on today.

The bubble quilting does fit the quilt perfectly, and you're right: the back is especially fun! And your FW quilt is a work of art!! And how do you have time to teach and sew all the quilts that you do? I'm in awe!! Have wonderful week, Hugs, H in Healdsburg

LOVE the quilt and my vote is for a scrappy binding. Gosh, are you a teacher? I simply don't see how you get so much quilting done. Please share tips. Your work is fabulous and inspiring.

Thanks for sharing this article, it has really been a very helpful read. I've been thinking about getting more involved with handmade quilts for sale. I love them, and I love original stuff so I'm willing to do just about anything to get them.

I like the simple circle quilting.

What a water feature! That's an engineering feat in itself. Your farmers wife may be slow but it is well worth it. It's beautiful.
