Hello, friends! Next up in my monthly small projects series is an Easy Log Cabin Potholder Tutorial with a video and free PDF pattern download. Potholders are a favorite scrap project of mine, and this version is one you’ll definitely want to make.
Easy Log Cabin Potholder Tutorial
Log Cabin Potholder Fabric Requirements
Scraps are perfect for these potholders. Since all of the pieces are 1 ½″ wide, left-over honeybun strips make the perfect starting point. Or, if you’re making several at once, you might just want to start with a Honeybun (there are some fun holiday Honeybuns available now, too) to make it easier to get the pieces all cut out.
- First, download the free pattern PDF here, or click the button below.
- Next, collect a variety of 1 ½″ wide strips for the potholder top
- Use a 2 ½″ x 5″ rectangle for the optional hanger
- 10″ x 10″ potholder backing fabric
- 10″ x 10″ Insul Brite
- (2) 10″ x 10″ batting (you can use just one, but I prefer two)
- 50″ prepared binding (For bias binding use a 14″ square of fabric and see my bias binding tutorial with a video here).
- Optional Circle Ruler for Rounding Corners or a Curved Corner Cutter
