Monday This & That

Happy Monday! This is my last full week of summer, so I'm going to savor every day! I start back to school next week with a very light teaching schedule this semester--I'll be teaching just one English 101 class, and the numbers are low which will mean fewer hours spent grading papers. So while it won't be a super busy semester school-wise,  I still sewed as much as I could on Saturday!

Unfortunately, I can't share very much of what I've been working on--one of my favorite quilts ever for magazine publication, market sewing, and market pattern designing and writing. But I did get my Summer Sampler quilt back from the quilter, and I'm in love...

I even have the perfect space in my hallway to hang this (right outside my sewing room), so I can't wait to get it bound!

I used the 12 block setting with the exception that I added another border which was 2 1/2" wide cut. Please send in your quilt top photos (quilted or not) by the end of the month for the August 31st parade!

I also made this cute camera block (mostly because I had it cut out already and needed to free up some of my design boards). It is included in the backing instructions for the Snapshots quilt along and is part of the pieced back pattern included on the Snapshots Quilt Along page. Problem: this camera is just too cute for the back of my quilt. I'm trying to figure out a way to add it to the front!

Finally...remember the Farmer's Wife book The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired, quilt and quilt along that many people were working on a couple of years ago? Well...the author has a new book...a 1930's version sampler quilt with more 6" blocks and more fun--the new book is The Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt: Inspiring Letters from Farm Women of the Great Depression and 99 Quilt Blocks That Honor Them. I'm going to be participating in a sew along for this book--more about that later. But if you are thinking of joining in, it will be a great time to sew along. I believe we are going to do 2 blocks a week, and there will be tips and tricks shared by many different participants!

Hope your weekend was wonderful and that your week is off to a great start! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I have the 1920'a book and have fabric to make the quilt. The new book would be great to do also.

I'm working on my Summer Sampler, too, finished the last two blocks! But now I first need my lable (yes, this one will be labled I almost never do this) and then I hope to get it finished for your parade. What fabric did you choose as binding?
Since I'm behind with my snapshot blocks I'm making these one now and yes, I wanna include the camera on the front, too. Thought about making it as the pattern with the scrappy blocks and then put it between the second and the third row on the front or on top of it. But I wonder if the quilt will then look a bit odd being that much longer than wide. Mmmh, let me please know what you'll do because I'm not satisfied with my plans yet.
I still need to make the original FW quilt but perhaps I will play along as motivation but with the original blocks. Let's see:-)
