Hello, friends! Today I’m sharing my Summer Sewing + Quilting Goals preview with a look ahead at some of the projects I’m hoping to work on and finish along with organizing tips I use at the start of each sewing season. I hope you’ll find some terrific inspiration here for your next season of sewing!

Summer Sewing + Quilting Goals
This weekend will be Memorial Day weekend here in the United States, and that signals the unofficial start of summer. I’ve also just finished a crazy spring sewing period of working on our Midsummer collection quilts and have a little time before I’ll start sewing on our fall release projects. Additionally, I’ve always looked forward to setting goals for the summer season for both my personal and quilting life–it seems like things slow down a bit during this time and I’m able to make some real progress on my intentions. Below you’ll find the steps I’m taking to create my summer plans.
1. Do a Quick Clean Up of Your Space
I love starting a new season with a tidy sewing space. And while I won’t be doing any reorganization or major overhauls, I do like to have my flat surfaces clear and ready to use. Spending even 30 to sixty minutes for a quick refresh always helps me set my goals.

2. Review Works in Progress
Before deciding on summer goals, I like to review the works in progress I currently have to work on. I also like to add something new and fun into the mix that I think I might be able to finish over the summer months. Some of my current works in progress are:
- My A Quilting Life Block of the Month
- The Sewcialites 3 Sew Along
- My Blockheads 6 Project
- Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery Quilt from 2022
If I could get the Blockheads 6 and the Designer Mystery quilt finished up this summer, that would be a great accomplishment for me. I’m actually pretty close to finishing my Sewcialites 3 blocks, and I’m keeping up with my own block of the month project, too!

3. Add Something New
I always like to add a new project for the summer, too. This year I have so many to choose from and haven’t yet decided which one(s) to focus on. But I’m choosing from the following list:
- King-size Christmas quilt using our Poinsettia & Pear Collection
- Placemats
- A new bag project

4. Add in Some Personal Goals
I’m also making a list of simple personal goals for this season. Since it is very hot here, I need to get up early in order to get my walk in before it gets into the 100-degree range (that’s just too hot for my walks). I’m also hoping to schedule some daily time (30 minutes or so) for home projects I’ve had on my list for awhile.

5. Take Some Time, then Write Down Your Goals
Steps two through four above are really just my brainstorming process. I put everything down in my notebook and then make a final decision about projects after I’ve mulled it over for a bit! Plus, I give myself permission to make changes whenever I want, lol!

More Organizing Resources
The following posts can offer you more ideas and helps if you’re looking to get organized for your summer sewing. Even though some of them focus on beginning of the year organizing, they are all easily adaptable for seasonal goals:
