Summer Breeze Kaleidoscope Block Pillow

Hello and happy Tuesday!  A little while ago I was asked to quilt along and make a project using Fat Quarter Shop’s new pattern, Summer Breeze. After seeing the pattern, I knew it would be just beautiful using our Desert Bloom fabric!

I’m a little late with my post, but so, so happy with my finished pillow!
The technique for this quilt is fun…you begin with simple strip piecing which always saves time!

Next, block sections are trimmed up using the Creative Grids 45 degree Kaleidoscope ruler. 

Background triangles and triangles cut from the strip-pieced sections are sewn together to form the block.

Then…and this is the best part…blocks are trimmed to the perfect size with the Creative Grids 8 ½″ square ruler.

The blocks are a lot of fun to make; the strip-piecing saves time, and all of the other block sections can be chain pieced to save even more time.

I had a lot of fun using the low-volume prints from Desert Bloom for half of my background sections.

Sewing the blocks together creates a fun secondary pattern. I used four blocks to make my pillow. If you end up making the quilt you will have enough blocks left over to make a pillow, too.

Simple straight line quilting with lines just ½″ apart was all this needed to make the block designs stand out. My pillow finished up at 16″ x 16″ which I’ve decided is my favorite pillow size–not too big and not too small!
