Barbie clothes. My mom made my Barbie the best dressed doll in town.
I made a quilt for my daughter a few years ago for Christmas which was a surprise, it closely resembled her favorite British plaid. She keeps it folded and displayed in a glass top coffee table in her living room, which pleases me greatly.
I've received numerous homemade/handmade gifts over the years but my favorite has to be an Angel made using an antique pillowcase.
The first quilt I ever made was for my mother last Christmas. It might not be the best looking quilt (being my first one), but it is my favorite. Thanks for the giveaway!

Hmmm, probably the photo pillow that I made for my best friend last year. She actually cried when she saw it, seeing tears of joy pretty much told me I had given a winner 😉
Thanks for the opportunity to win, you do lovely work
My favourite handmade gift is a large doll given to me by my grandmother complete with clothes that she crocheted for it. 40 years later I still have the doll waiting for the day when I can give it to my own daughter. At 2 years old she knows the doll is special and points to it often but respects the fact that the doll is "sleeping" and can't play with her at the moment.
I always had handmade goodies at xmas but i really loved a fabric frog made by my brother that i still have. Thanks for the giveaway!!
Quilts and Other Blessings says
Our youngest was born the day after Christmas, so we have always said she was our best Christmas present ever. She, on the other hand, says we could have planned just a little better so that everyone wouldn't give her birthday presents wrapped in leftover Christmas paper..
I give out tins of homemade cookies every year….I love to do all of the baking. 🙂
I know this really isn't original, but my favorite homemade gift that I have given was a quilt. That I have received was these just wonderful chocolate peppermint cookies.
Are the first floor patchwork "carpets" that I made WITH my mother about 19 years ago…
I'm giving my 4 year old daughter a play kitchen made from an old nightstand. I'm so excited about it!
Among the favorites — Christmas ornaments made by my children one year when they were 7 and 5… their idea using little plastic pieces. Now they both tell me to throw them away – that they are the ugliest ornaments on the tree.
My quilting friend made me a Christmas Tree skirt for my wedding shower. I use every year and think of her. I love it.
Happy Cottage Quilter says
I think the year that we had NO money and we stenciled rug samples for gifts. They made great rugs for the entry way, and they turned out really nice.
That is a problem as we don't celebrate Christmas with presents. But we do have Sinterklaas. It is not very common giving self made presents. I remember one year when we decided we all had to make our present for someone else ourselves and my mother sewing my (now) DH shorts. Can't remember what I got or made. Another year my mother sewed me a beautiful jacket from furniture fabric, that was awesome!
When I was 7, I received a doll from Santa. My great aunt made a wardrobe of clothes for this doll. The clothes were all sewn by hand…satin pj's that were embroidered, a cape trimmed with real fur my aunt cut from her mink coat, black velvet dress…it was wonderful and I still have those things she made me 50+ years ago.
Thanks for the giveaway…
Dawn Till Dusk says

I think that it will be my favorite handmade gift ever given. Also my grandmother embroidered a christmas tablecloth and napkins for me the year i got married and I can't wait to get it out every year. That's my favorite recieved. The pinccushion is lovely and I'd keep it for myself. 🙂

My husband made 2 large Barbie houses for my daughters when they were little too!

I've given and received many hand crafted gifts over the years, but for many years when my children were little I would make Christmas Eve pajamas for the family, a gift they could open that night and wear to bed. I love the photos of the girls with their freshly washed hair, all dressed in their new pajamas or nightgowns, smiling in anticipation of Santa coming. Sometimes my husband and I would have a matching pajama as well. The year I made my husband pink flannel boxers…….. That's a fun photo.
My mother just sent me a quilted Advent calendar last week! I posted about it yesterday too! It was an early gift, and I love it, and will cherish it for years!
I made a quilt for my son that featured a black lab and hunting motif. He loved it. Now I treasure this same quilt as my son passed away at the age of 26 from a brain tumor. He even requested this quilt to be draped over his casket.
I'm so happy to see you joined in the SMS Giveaway Day because I adore these pincushions and friendship bags! My most favorite gift was an ornament exchange I participated in with 12 of my friends when I lived in Colorado. (I miss them terribly!)

My favorite homemade Christmas of all time was a handmade Raggedy Ann that my aunt gave me. She was always with me. She was closely followed by a hand crocheted wedding dress for my Barbie from a friends mom. They didn't have a lot of money and I thought that was the sweetest thing ever.

When I was younger – my Dad had his friend build me a baby doll bed for my "babies". It was a total surprise to both my Mom and I. It was my favorite Christmas gift!!
My favorite gift is one that I gave to my mother. I had just learned to cross-stitch, and I made a HUGE angel for her. I had it professionally framed…not so cheap on my college student budget…but it was SO worth it! It hangs in the house still in a place of honor…
My mom sewed me a pair of jammies when i was a kid. She would have to bribe me to make me not wear them to school.

Quilt Hollow says
I love to give homemade. Something from heart and hands is best because I spent much more time thinking about the person than I would have if I make a purchase. I love to give to quilt related items and baked items. For me…it is all about time spent thinking of the person while making the gift.
Vickie E says

What ever one I am working on at the time (right now I am making a felt on linen applique wall hanging of the home I grew up in for my mom and all my siblings.) "Going handmade" has made Christmas so much more fun. While others are fighting for a parking spot or knocking others over for the latest ___, I am at home, cozy and warm making the most important thing, MEMORIES, with my daughter and passing on our tradition of handmade gifts

The favorite handmade gifts I've made were some tied fleece blankets I made for my then-boyfriend's (now husband) nieces for Christmas. I think those blankets are what convinced his sister and mother that I was quite a catch. The best handmade gift I received was for Mother's Day from my son's daycare–his painted footprint as a vase holding little foam flowers. I almost cried when I received it!

The Christmas before my grandmother passed away she gave me her first ever quilt. I was so touched and now I'm so thankful to have this small part of her to see everyday.

Last Year I took my first quilting class and I made three quilts, one for each of my little girls. They loved their quilts. I loved seeing their faces and watching them take those quilts everywhere over the year. All that hard work was definitely worth it.
My favorite gift was a photo of herself pasted onto a cutout ornament (from construction paper) from our oldest daughter when she was 6. She sprinkled glitter on it as well.
Why, you ask, so precious? She passed away just before her 13th birthday. That ornament brings tears every year when it goes on the tree…….happy tears of wonderful memories.
This was back in the 1970s. A fuschia pink afghan knitted by my grandmother. I wanted one sooooooo bad I could hardly stand it. I considered it too much to ask for so I don't know how she knew. But Christmas there was a huge bulky package for me and I knew what it was before I opened it. It was the best!
When I was four my mom, who is NOT a sewer, spent weeks and many tries working on a handmade Raggedy Ann doll and matching dress for me. It was my favorite book at the time and all I wanted that year. I still have both and love them all the more because it's one of the last things she ever sewed, because like I said she's not much of a sewer. So it was truely an act of love for her to make it. Now she knits for us, something she likes a lot more.

It was a special time that my sister and I spent together.

Oh my goodness, how pretty. My favorite handmade gift was from a friend who scrapbooked photos of my kids and framed the page for me. It still hangs in my studio today.
The very best handmade gift I received when I was a girl growing up was my grandmother made a large suitcase full of dress up clothes for a doll that I called my "high heal" doll (long before Barbie). The clothes were made from scraps of fabrics from both grandmothers' and my mother's sewing. The grandmother that made the doll clothes always made her quilts from the flour sacks from her cafe that she owned. The best gifts that I have made and given are quilts for my family and friends. Oldest son received a Texas Tech quilt last Christmas just because he is such a fan of TT football. Gay

My sister painted a stool for me, her folk art style is wonderful. I treasure my stool.
All-time favorite homemade Christmas gift was from my Granny probably close to 60 years ago: an upside down doll, which was one of her specialties. This one was little red riding hood on one side and the other side had grandma in a nightgown and cap, and the cap reversed so that the big bad wolf was on the back side of grandma's head. Not sure but I believe she made this and many others like it from a homemade pattern that she developed. Wish I still had it!

My favorite that I received was my first quilt. I pieced it and then found that I hated hand quilting. My mom took the quilt, finished the quilting, and gave it back to me as my Christmas gift.

Love my schnibbles you gave me. This is so cute. My favorite homemade gift was what my MIL did for all my kids last year. She went through literally thousands and thousands of family photos and made every grandchild their personal scrapbook. I hate scrapbooking so I was so glad to see my kids had a photo albumn. My teenage kids even loved them. It was a fabulous effort and a great gift. You've got a lot of comments. I'd love to read them all but that is fairly impossible!

When my kids were little they always made special gifts for me at school…those are my favorites. I put them out EVERY Christmas! One of my most favorites is a little paint can that was decorated to look like Santa. It was filled with little goodies like magnets and stuff my youngest made 🙂
hands down my most favorite and treasured Christmas gifts I've ever received are the handmade ornaments that my "Momma Newt" gave to all of us every year. I was the youngest of 18 grand kids so she usually let me have first pick each year. I love having them on my tree every year – especially since it's been 14 years since she died.
thanks for the great giveaway! Love from Texas! ~bonnie

The Christmas present I will never forget was undoubtedly a wooden bed that my father made me. Moreover, this Christmas was very special. It was a very difficult year for my parents, there was no money to buy gifts for for the four children and this was the solution. I remember that the bed had "tucha" written on the headboard, with some letters cut out of sticky blue velvet.
Great prize Sherri! My favourite handmade gift is the gorgeous tree skirt my mother in law made me last year. I received it late and am enjoying it for the first time this year. Thanks for the chance.
The Perfect Trio says
my fave gift was a doll that my great aunt had crocheted for me!

Paper Tiger says
My very favorite is a drawing that my father made when he was seven that was tacked up in his grandfather's barn. When the barn was being taken down, my aunt found it and had it framed for me. I'm close to my Dad, who was very close to his grandfather, so it was a very dear gift.
I would have to say the best gift I remember making was a memory table cloth for my mother in law. With some help from my husband we transfered old family photographs onto a table cloth. We most have gone through thousands of pictures. The best part of it was watching her face when she opened it. She was moved to tears. I don't think I will forget that.
Missy Ann says
The powder blue & white sweater with the ice skating bunnies on it that my Great-Grandmother knit for me. I love that sweater. I wore it until I had to keep the sleeves pushed up all the time because the were too short. I think that was 4th grade. I still have that sweater. I think the matching hat is long lost… I think about have someone knit me an adult size copy; but that means I'd have to let it out of my house and I don't think I can do that.
What a fun giveaway Sherri, thanks so much … I LOVE to win one of your gorgeous creations!!!
My fave Chrissy gift that I received was when I was about 6 or 7 (a loooong time ago LOL) and my Mum handknitted a beautiful outfit … cape, tights, dress, booties … for my bestest dolly!!! I still remember that very clearly it was sooo pretty. And my favourite gift given was TO my Mum, I made her a quilt a couple of years ago and her reaction is what makes the memory so sweet and so spesh … ;o), she cried with delight :o)!!
Thanks for reminding me of such lovely memories!!!!
This one is easy! My Grandmother Staples (the quilter in the family) the woman who passed this precious craft onto me passed away September 2008. I inherited everything sewing related and also a beaded chanel bed spread that she received as a wedding gift in the 1940’s. This bed spread had seen better days so I decided to cut it and make Christmas gifts for my aunts. I made chanel snowmen for each aunt/uncle and there was not a dry eye in the house. I also made myself one and would not trade it for the anything in the world.
Carrie P. says
My favorite Christmas gift was from my applique teacher and she made a velvet bird that is covered in glitter. It is like a pincushion but I would never use it as a pincushion. It has a tag on it it that says"Believe" I leave it sitting out all the time.
When I was a little girl my grandmother would make me clothes every year, and I love every single one of them. I still have many of them stored at my parents' house and I would think of her every time I see them. I think this is why I picked up sewing myself, is to be able to make memories and keepsakes for my children and their children.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

My favorite homemade gift is a lamp my Dad made for me out of oak – it's shaped like a pair of sewing shears.
My favorite handmade gift was a pair of socks I knit for my mother two years ago. They were only my second pair ever and…realized that I had no idea where the first sock was after finishing the second. I had to buy another skein of yarn and mentally changed 'Christmas' to 'February birthday' while I cast on for another pair.
Then, the day after Christmas, I found the first sock in a drawer! What a relief…

my favourite handmade gift is the one I'm making this year for my sister in law which is pretty, useful and totally her style. i'm doing her a sort of a sleeping bag with patchwork on the outside and really soft flannel on the inside. she's supposed to get inside of it and warm her feet and legs whilst being at the computer. she lives far away from us and her boyfriend so she skypes a lot…
My friend is a glassblower and one year gave me the most beautiful vase…it melt my heart everytime I see it!
The best homemade gift I received was a little needlepoint from a wonderful Christian lady in my life.
My favorite gift that I have received in recent years was a ceramic Nativity set that my father-in-law created for me. He was a very good artist and loved doing ceramics. I had had several other groupings made of plastic and they went by the wayside from a chewing dog. When I opened that present I started to shake and cry and was overwhelmed by his generosity! He is in heaven now and every year when I unpack it I think of that wonderful Christmas.

My favourite present received was a wonderful linen tablecloth embroidered by my sister. My favouite I have ever given was to my SIL (total non crafter/sewer). I could really use a new pincushion – I'm thinking about adding it to my list this year!
When I was a child cabbage patch kids were huge. My mom couldn't afford to buy us kids each one. So she made all 7 of us kids a handmade cabbage patch doll with iron on eyes that looked just like a real cabbage patch doll. Mine had orange yarn hair and was well loved.
The best Christmas gift I received was the sewing machine my husband and kids offered me last year.

Oh gosh, I've had so many beautiful handmade gifts from my family over the years but I think the best one was the Christmas before my mother died when she found one of my childhood dolls (Chatty Kathy) in the attic and she made clothes for her, wrapped her up and gave her to me for Christmas…again!
My favorite gift was the quilt my maternal grandmother gave me. SHe was definitely "old school" as all the fabrics were from clothing and not bought special like many of us do today!!
Thank you for the opportunity to enter!
My favourite handmade Christmas gift was a bread Santa my son made following a Martha Stewart recipe. It was beautiful and made to be eaten. But he had made it 2 weeks before Christmas and it had started to go moldy on the back by the time I opened up. He was so disappointed but I am still impressed that he went to so much trouble and did such a good job. I am thankful I have a picture of it with him.
These are lovely. My favorite handmade present was a red and white maxi skirt and matching vest made for me (and for my 2 cousins!) by my now-deceased Grandma. We rocked those outfits! Thanks!

Last year I made several aprons for Christmas. They turned out so well, I'm planning on doing lots more homemade gifts this year!
Last year, my family agreed to do a handmade gift exchange. My mother gave me a beautiful pair of earrings and a gorgeous glass pendant that she had purchased on Etsy.

We live far apart, but she says whenever she naps with that blanket, she feels like she is getting a big hug :-).
My favorite handmade gift received was an Advent wreath that my friend made for me several years ago. I look forward to taking it out of storage every year four Sundays before Christmas. My favorite handmade gift given was an Advent calendar that I made for that very same friend.

My favourite Christmas gift that I haven't given yet (a gift for 2009) is a set of magnets featuring favourite family photos. I borrowed a button maker from a friend and used scanned photos. wow, this is such a generous giveaway! my mom made me a quilted advent calendar in the shape of a Christmas tree. so nice and i look forward to pulling it out every year.
My Mother gave me a smooth stone pendant necklace when I was in my early twenties. I had picked up the stone from beside the Mississippi River when I was a very young child, and she had saved it for many years. We had been traveling from our home to visit my Grandmother who lived hundreds of miles away. I had picked it up to take home to my other Grandmother that we had left behind. My Mother kept it all those years (long after my Grandmother who received it had passed away) and had it made into a necklace. That is one of my favorite handmade gifts.
My favorite handmade gift was a book one of my college roommates compiled of all the e-mails we sent during summer and winter breaks there were 6 of us, so it is no small book!). So many memories : )
Well, my favorite handmade gifts I've given are quilts, I've been trying to make one for each of my family members, and I give it to them at Christmas time, it's so fun!!!
I once received a really lovely handmade jacket with a tasteful winter scene appliqued on it. I still where it. As a matter of fact, I wore it just today!
It has to be the pajamas my mom used to make for us every year. It was so special to find them waiting for us at the end of the bed Christmas eve.
Ah, so beautiful! And I'm in desperate need of a pincushion. How'd you know?
My family has been doing a homemade Christmas since I was eleven, so it's hard for me to choose just one favorite homemade gift. One particularly memorable gift, though, was a small pillow my teenage brother made me right before I went off to college. He hot-glue "appliqued" the words "Hands off my boss pillow, you!" on the front with a sprig of matching holly. Classic. A few years before that he got our older sister to help him make me a Newsie costume for my American Girl doll. Yes, read that right. I hope that brightens your day!
Thanks for doing this giveaway!
My favourite gift was a shirt that I made my husband the first year we were dating. Thanks for a chance to win.
Can a person have too many pincushions? My favorite gifts are the goofy things my kids made me in grade school every year. I love my pincushion by the way!!!

My favorite "homemade" gift is the same every year. My children wake up early and make us breakfast. We always have to stay in bed so they can "do it themselves". It is a nice treat, especially when they all come in with plates and fresh orange juice and big smiles and we all cram on the bed to eat Christmas breakfast together.
My best friend made me a quilt in my favourite colours. It was one of her first quilts and she now says that she could do much better but I love it and will always treasure it.
My mum made me a dancing doll when I was really little, she was as tall as me and had elastics in her feet and hands so we could dance together. Sadly I no longer have her, but hope she has found her way to teaching some other little one to dance through life.
Thx for sharing and happy holidays

Ok, I will have to say my most favorite homemade gift was actually gifts from my mom when I was a child. She would stay up way late many evenings with her bedroom door shut sewing for us. I could hear her sewing machine just whirling away as she busily made my sisters and I special outfits each year. She was /is a wonderful seamstress and her projects said "love" to me and still do! I love my Mom and the sacrificial way she gave to us and still does! To this day I absolutely love homemade gifts best of all!!
Your giveaway is so pretty. I have many favs but one year my sister, strapped for cash, gathered pretty leaves, painted them bronze and framed them against black paper in cheap ikea frames. So pretty and effective. Bx

I gave my Mother a pattern for crocheted Bell Ornaments as she wanted something small she could work on as she received her Chemotherapy. She made a dozen or so, but she never got to finish them. After she passed,I took her bells and did the finish and made boxes to hold the bell. At Christmas I sent the bells with a letter explaining how they came to be to Family and Friends from my Mother. It was her last gift to them. The box lid had this " I miss you all dearly, now don't shed a tear, I spending my Christmas with Jesus this year.

The Christmas after I left college and got my own place, my Mom sent my brother and I on a treasure hunt around the house (a family tradition in itself) and at each stop we found a 4' tree, lights, garland, and at least 25 handmade ornaments. That tree is now bulging with decorations she and I have made through the years. I love it!

In my early 20s I taught myself to knit and made my boyfriend (now husband) a scarf. It was the most dilapitated, uneven, hideous scarf in existance, but he wore it until the end of that season. I guess that's why I married him and we'll be celebrating our 14th anniversary soon!
