Hello! This week I was able to finish a WIP…my grandmother’s scrappy quilt that I shared with you recently (and the inspiration for the recent scrappy sew along here on the blog)!
I chose a simple all-over orange peel design to be quilted on this quilt (quilting
by Kaitlyn of Knot and Thread). As I mentioned before, I’m not sure how long this quilt has sat unfinished, but it sure is good to get it finished up!
It was fun looking at all of the fabrics to see if I remembered any of them from other projects my grandmother sewed for me and my family–there were quite a few!
Of course I love the 9-patches…and the star designs! And isn’t it wonderful how a quilt made up of so many fabrics can become such a thing of beauty?! I sure love scrappy quilts!
In keeping with the scrappy theme…I used fabric from my stash for finishing…1930’s themed yardage for the backing and a blue Minick & Simpson print that was a perfect frame for the front of the quilt for binding.
Now I need to work on finishing my version of this quilt! I’ve seen some of the quilts coming together on Instagram, and I love them all!
This has been a terrific stash busting project…you can find all of the information for sewing along in these posts:
I have to say…finishing up my grandmother’s quilt was a wonderful project that I’m grateful I had the opportunity to do…thanks so much for following along on the journey!
Happy Quilting!

I'm thinking that you will treasure her quilt for many, many years. I would love to see a picture of the whole quilt to see the overall design, Sherri, if possible. Thanks and have a great day!!

I love seeing the orange peel quilting on this quilt. I have the design on my machine, but I've not been sure where to use it. It's lovely, as is your version.

Your Grandmother's quilt is very lovely and inviting. My RW&B top is almost done. A little different since it is smaller. Will send some photos of the top. Have a great day and thanks for sharing your Grandmother's quilt with all of us.

*Thank you!* for sharing your Grandmother's quilt with us, Sherri!
(I selected my fabrics, and have planned a smaller version of your wonderful quilt… I will have to finish some commitments first, before I can go back to finish it…)
I love your orange peel quilting choice!
Thank you, again!!
