Hello and happy Wednesday! Last weekend I got caught up with some Bee blocks I’d fallen behind on…you see I have a lot of secret sewing to do over the next few weeks, so I needed to make sure these were finished up and sent off!
The Confetti Star paper-pieced block is one I’ve made before. Now that I’ve
made this one twice for other people I’m seriously thinking I need to make a quilt of these for myself (or at least a wall hanging). I had fun using some favorite prints in this one! You can find the free pattern for the Confetti Star block here.
I also, quite literally, made a “bee” block! Rachel requested a brown and yellow be with a blue or purple background and white wings! I used some Moda Basic Grey for the bee body, Bonnie & Camille white on white for the wings, and a favorite Amy Butler print for the background. This was another paper pieced block…you can find more information about it here.
Finally, I made this large star/flag block for Carol. This block finishes up at 18″ and was super fun to make. I used Desert Bloom and Creekside prints. I normally use creamier backgrounds with my fabrics, but the request was for white backgrounds, and I think it turned out nicely! You can find the great tutorial for this block here!
I had so much fun making the block for Carol that I made another one for myself, making it smaller so I could use it for a pillow. I added 2″ white borders to the center star and then added scrappy 2 ½″ red borders so my pillow would finish at 16″ x 16″.
It sure feels good to be caught up. And I’m really looking forward to beginning my secret sewing!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I'd like to see the "bee" quilt when it is finished. It is a cute block. However, I found it difficult to find the bee with the busy background. I know you were working the requestor's constraints. It's amazing how blocks came come together to make a fantastic quilt when they look busy and others can be a rather ordinary quilt when the blocks appear very interesting. It can really be in the finishing. I'm realizing how important that finish really is.

Oh, my goodness, so gorgeous! I just love that little fussy cut "star" portion of the flag! I'm thinking of making a whole quilt of the stars as well. Thanks so much, Sherri! I just love it! Can't wait to put them all together.

I love my star block, Sherri. The fabrics are fabulous in it. It is going to be such a fun quilt.
Your RW&B star is wonderful too. I made an extra one to do a pillow too. Your fussy cut star section looks great.
I'm looking forward to seeing the bee quilt all together. Cute bee.
