Hello and happy December! I’ve been starting to pull out my Christmas decor…and I started with the pillows. I love making Quilted Christmas Pillows because they are usually quick to make and because they add instant charm to whatever setting you place them!
I usually start my decorating with the pillows because I can set them out and have a bit of Christmas cheer while I’m accomplishing bigger projects. And since I’ve never posted about all of my pillows in one post, I thought this would be a great way to kick off the month!
House Pillows
One of my favorite pillows is this Christmas houses pillow I made a few years ago. I made the house blocks using the “Full House” pattern (but I believe you could use the “Village” pattern as well). An inner solid border and a patchwork border with an outer solid border really make this come together quickly! I usually set it on the sofa in our living room, but I’ve also used it on beds.
Dresden Pillows
I love Dresden blocks…and there is nothing better than a Dresden with Christmas fabrics and a fussy-cut center. And, I have a pattern for this design in my book A Quilting Life!
The Christmas Tree pillow is this year’s addition (I try to make a new pillow every year…sometimes they end up being gifts, so I don’t keep each year’s creation). You can find the Christmas Tree pillow tutorial here. I also love Grandmother’s Flower Garden blocks in Christmas fabrics…and it’s so easy to make just one block and make a mini pillow! You can find the pattern for a similar Grandmother’s Flower Garden pillow in my book A Quilting Life (link above)!
Patchwork + Embroidery Pillows
Last year’s pillow is another favorite…this design by Amy Sinibaldi of Nana Company is a free PDF pattern you can find here!
I used my favorite scraps and added the cute pom pom trim!
Finally…my first Christmas pillow ever…this beautiful, ruffled pillow made for me by my grandmother several years ago has graced our home every year! She used a 12″ block and added a small border…with the ruffle really setting it off!
Do you have a favorite design you like to use for holiday pillows? Please share in the comments section!
I have my table runners, table toppers, wall hangings and quilts ready to set out…I’ll be posting about them soon.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

What wonderful pillows! I'm sure they light up your house, just like a Christmas tree does. Thank you for sharing, Sherri! I've just started making pillows for our home. We usually just had a few boughten ones till now. Now I've made quite a few Fruit Block Pillows and House Block Pills with a sleeve backing, so I can use them for little table toppers too. Your first pillow with those ruffled edges is especially cute!

I would love to make all of these in Kansas Troubles for my home. I've been quilting for 14 years and still haven't made any Christmas decorations for my home!
Thanks for getting my Arcade order out so quickly.

Love all your pillows!
I don't have a favorite design for holiday pillows but I like when they have a certain holiday vibe but not too much so I can leave them on display not only for a certain holiday.

I recognized your Kate Spain fabrics from 5 or so years ago. That's when I fell in love with her designs. I made small pillows with five rows of ruffles for family and friends and a table runner for me with them. It's nice to revisit them each Christmas season.

Lovely pillow cushions. I have never made any Christmas ones, but you have inspired me to do so. Nice way to decorate for Christmas.

What cute pilllows! Thanks for including the pattern links. Putting the pillows out first and then accomplishing bigger tasks is a great idea 🙂

Love your blog as it has given me many ideas/reasons to make gifts for my children's teachers this year. I have finished the Amy Sinibaldi merry and bright pillow (made for a special family we know) with the quilted Christmas tree patchwork pillows nearly finished.
Thank you for all of your wonderful tutorials and ideas!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
