Hello and happy Monday! I’ve been doing a little of this and a little of that this weekend in my sewing room, so I have kind of an eclectic mix of things to share this morning!
One of my weekend must-makes was the latest Splendid Sampler block, block
57 by Lissa Alexander. Lissa’s block is called Starting Point, and if you haven’t
read her story, click on over to her blog to read it. I’ve loved following along with all of the stories, but Lissa’s really hit home with me and made me think about my starting point as a quilter from the late 80’s and early 90’s until now.
I’ve been using Fig Tree fabrics for all of my Splendid Sampler blocks and thought I should use an older piece or two of Fig Tree fabric in this block as an homage to my early days…so I found some older pieces (one is from Cinnamon Stars and the other from Allspice Tapestry) to add in. I was pleased that they combined so nicely with the more recent fabrics. It seems like the scrappier the block is, the easier it is to use a variety of fabrics!
I love this block and the fact that it has a little of my quilting past and present in it! You can get the Starting Point block instructions from the Splendid Sampler website.
I also spent quite a bit of time this weekend working on my new fall quilt. In fact I worked on it when I probably should have been doing other things, but as a result of that, it’s ready to be quilted as soon as I get the backing pieced. All of these half-square triangles have been trimmed and now have a home in the new quilt. And I have to say, it’s one of my favorites already.
I’ve even got the scrappy binding pieced and ready to go for this one…and the scrappy binding is going to be perfect with the border fabric I used from the Farmhouse collection.
I promise I’ll share this one as soon as it’s quilted!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend…and that today is the starting point for a great week…thanks so much for stopping by!
