Hello, friends, and happy Thursday! It’s the first Thursday of the month so I’m sharing the Quilt Block of the Month February 2022 blocks. Find answers to questions about the Block of the Month that you might have on this post and get links to the new block video and pattern PDF. Thanks so much for sewing along this year!
Quilt Block of the Month February 2022
2022 Quilt Along Details
- This year’s quilt is a sampler with 12 different unique pieced blocks. There is no applique’ or paper piecing required. Once again, I will be sharing block patterns in two sizes: 12″ finished and 6″ finished.
- Patterns release monthly on the first Thursday of the month here on the blog.
- Each month, a step-by-step video tutorial features helps to make to make that month’s block. Watch the video here on the blog or on the YouTube channel here.
- The 2021 blocks are now available as a full file in my shop for purchase here.
- Get the 2022 Block of the Month Fabric Requirements here.
- And find all of the previous posts in the Quilt Block of the Month series here.
- Finally, I’ve recently received a few questions about the finished size of this year’s quilt. I haven’t finalized my setting, but since the blocks are the same as last year’s, the finished sizes will be similar: 27″ x 34″ for the small quilt with 6″ blocks and 52″ x 67″ for the larger quilt with 12″ blocks. Of course, you can always make additional blocks and/or add additional borders to increase your quilt size.
February 2022 Quilt Block Details
- My 12″ finished blocks are pieced with fabrics from Seashore Drive. I’m using this Bella solid for background along with the tone on tone from the collection.
- And my 6″ finished blocks are pieced with a variety of fabrics from Minick & Simpson, including a good mix from this recent collection. I’m using a tone on tone background from my Walkabout collection along with this Bella solid.
- Be sure to watch today’s video before cutting and sewing your block. I have a couple of tips that are a bit different from the pattern directions. You’ll be able to save time and increase the accuracy of the block following those tips. Pattern Correction: There is a typo on the cutting instructions for the B & C squares. Those will need to be cut diagonally twice just like the A squares if you’re making the blocks according to the pattern and not according to my video directions.

Hello Sheri
I am working along with your BOM this year. I would like to purchase backing while the fabric line I have chosen is still in stock.
Do you have approx. fabric backing requirements for the 12″ block quilt?
Thank You Becca
sherri McConnell says
4 1/4 yards will be fine if you don’t add blocks or make the borders larger.
Cindy Berry says
Thanks Sherri for another great quilt along – I am really excited about this one and using 30s prints to make the larger blocks. Have a great weekend.

I am trying to copy the block for February and can not get it centered to see the complete page regardless what I try to do
sherri McConnell says
There are two pages 🙂
Janice L Orton says
I know but they are both off center and they cut off the right side
Janice L Orton says
Please disregard my previous reply as it now worked for me. Thank you so much for getting back to me. Love your patterns

Hi Sheri, I’m a little confused, in February’s BOM video you mentioned there was a video for making quarter square triangles. Where do I fund this video? Thank you!
sherri McConnell says
If you click on the “Show More” under the BOM video on YouTube, there is a direct link to the video.

Trying to find information about your new club? Not sure if you are saying patriotic group? I have reminded many times…small quilts, organization, zoom call monthly? Can you tell me where to find this. Thank you.
sherri McConnell says
Patreon…there is a blog post with information about it here: https://www.aquiltinglife.com/2022/01/a-quilting-life-patreon-community.html/

I could use additional pressing advice. For example, on block 1, after you sew the three star rows together, how do you press the two resulting seams? After you sew the churn dash sections onto the center, how to press the final top and bottom seams where the churn dash joins the center star portion?
sherri McConnell says
I try to share the images of the block backs in the video to show pressing. If I missed doing that this month, I will be sure to share that in March and going forward 🙂

Where do I find January 2022 bom instructions
sherri McConnell says
First Thursday post from January. But you can more easily get there from the February post…just click on the link for all of the previous BOM posts from the 2022 Quilt Along Details section.

I am a little bit confused. I have looked at your videos over and over and trying to decide the difference in the background fabric, contrasting fabric and sashing fabric. Is the contrasting fabric your fat quarters? Is the backcground fabric what appears to be your white on the assembled blocks and the churn dash white the same as the background white?
sherri McConnell says
The contrast is the grey for the churn dash strips and hst’s. The background is the tone on tone (white). I’ve used that in the churn dash sections as well.

Hello,
I have a problem with the 6” block and the 12”block. Could you please clarify the size of the HST and the borders. When I make the border 2.5x 2= 5 and the HST is 2.5 finished and is much too small. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thank you,
Dawn
sherri McConnell says
You didn’t mention which size blocks you’re making. Be sure you are in the column for the correct block. Also, the churn dash border instructions are in the January file 🙂
