Recently I’ve had the opportunity to use some “new to me” products that I’d like to share with you. First up is “Soft and Stable.” I met Annie Unrein a couple of months ago at a quilt show in St. George and was able to have a demonstration of this amazing product. Since I make quite a few bags, “Soft and Stable” was of interest to me.
It is absolutely a wonderful product. I used it in the construction of both bags I made for market. The bags hold their shape, even when nothing is in them! I’ve traditionally used either fusible fleece or a layer of batting/heavy interfacing when constructing bags, and this product gives greater stability than both of these methods while still being soft. I’m definitely sold on this product. The package pictured above made both bags shown here with enough left over for a 3rd, smaller bag.
It was easy to quilt through as well…I did a little pinning, but not a lot as the “nap” of the “Soft and Stable” held the fabric steady.
Another product I recently reviewed is LapelStick. LapelStick is an adhesive perfect for short term sewing repairs (think hemming pants until you have time to sew them), but it is also great for temporarily keeping fabrics together for applique’.
I have to say that I was a little hesitant to use it for applique, but I had no reason to worry. It held great (this block actually sat for a month before I got around to stitching it). And there was no stiffness at all. There was no gumming up of the needle, either. Definitely, this is a handly little product to keep in your purse, suitcase, and sewing kit. I have two extra samples of this to give away, so if you’d like to try this product, just leave me a comment, and I’ll draw two names tonight.
Oh, and you can still enter the Hawthorne Threads giveaway on my previous post!

I know other quilting bloggers have been receiving free LapelSticks to review. I believe blog authors need to state that information up front nowadays.

Wonderful products! I love to read reviews. The glue stick is very interesting. It would be nice to use when working with wool projects. It beats getting stuck with pins! I will have to check out the fusing. I wouldn't mind attempting a bag someday but do not want it to be to floppy. Thanks so much for sharing about these products. This newbie really appreciates it!
Me and My Stitches says
I really want to try Lapel Stick, but haven't found it anywhere yet. I recently struggled with fusing wool applique – maybe this is the way to go!

I have some applique blocks I was thinking of doing and was thinking about trying the lapel stick since I had read good things about it. Unfortunately, I live in a small town with no quilting or crafting specialty store, so it is going to have to wait until I make a trip out of town – unless I win one of these 😉 Thanks for the chance.
