Hello and happy Tuesday! I dropped off one more new Walkabout quilt to my quilter yesterday, and I can’t wait to get it back and share it with you. I’m finishing up the pattern this week and hope to be able to share it all next week. But today I’m sharing a fun project I made earlier this year–a patchwork storage cube in Quilts & More Winter 2019. This new issue officially hits newsstands next week, but copies of the magazine will start showing up in shops any time now.

Scrap Lab Projects Winter 2019
The projects in this month’s Scrap Lab are just gorgeous all together. There is a terrific half-log cabin wall-hanging, a group of pillows (just one is pictured here), and my patchwork storage cube. The other two designers, Jenni Baker and Jayne Willis, and I were each given a bundle of these lovely Paintbrush Studio solids to work with. The editor asked me to make a storage cube for my project for this issue. So of course I had to make it patchwork!

I also love a scrappy binding, and since I was working with fat quarters, a scrappy binding was the perfect choice. I used Soft & Stable by Annie Unrein to give the cube great stability. As you can see from the first photo, the patchwork storage cube is a really nice size and will easily hold small pillows and throws. It would also be great in a child’s room for holding toys or even for diaper storage in a nursery.

It was also a fun surprise to find out that our Scrap Lab projects for this issue are on the cover! I’m excited to get my copy of the issue and see the other project ideas. I’m looking for gift ideas now with Christmas just around the corner–and it looks like this issue will have some fun ideas!

Thank you, Quilts & More!
Seeing this project in print is a little bittersweet, however. You see, I’ve been able to work as a Scrap Lab designer for the past two years. It was a great honor to be able to work with such great editors on so many fun projects in 8 different issues. And because the fabrics were chosen for each issue by the editors, it was always a fun surprise to see the fabric pull and an exercise in creativity for me to come up with fun projects for each collection. I have really enjoyed making each and every project. My most memorable project was this one because I was able to use our The Front Porch fabric collection and also have my daughter be one of the other Scrap Lab designers for that issue! I look forward to working on other projects for publication, but really appreciated this unique opportunity!

I had a lot of fun making the patchwork storage cube in Quilts & More Winter 2019 issue. If you’re looking for a fun storage project, this one is fast and fun! The Winter 2019 issue of Quilts & More will be on newsstands October 23rd. Look for it at your favorite quilt shop soon!
I’ll be back tomorrow with the next Moda Block Heads block release…it’s a fun one! Happy quilting, and thanks so much for stopping by!

Cute idea and congrats to be a covergirl! But wait did I read that right that you are no longer a scrap lab designer for the magazine or did I misundertood the bittersweet sentiment? Anyways, can’t wait for the next Moda block.

This was my last Scrap Lab unless I do a project as a guest designer. They usually keep you on for just a two-year time period. You will love tomorrow’s block!
