One of my favorite poets is William Wordsworth. The first phrase in his poem “The Rainbow” describes my feeling each day as I enter my little sewing room–“my heart leaps up!” It is the perfect description of how I feel when I’m able to sew, even for a little bit. This weekend was busy, so I only had small windows of time to work on a few things. I finished this little Christmas bag with a stitchery I’d already completed, and I cut out and sewed my latest “Peace on Earth” block from the Fat Quarter Shop.
“Fig and Plum” is one of those lines I love…do you have fabric you love so much that you don’t want to cut into it? I was finally able to cut some of this fabric and make this free pattern from Moda. Since the pattern calls for 1 ½″ strip “honey buns” (which aren’t available yet to my knowledge), I had to improvise and cut up a few jelly-roll strips. I really like how the little bag turned out–I still need to get some velcro and make a fabric-covered button for the closure. I just couldn’t throw away any of this fabric, so I sewed the remaining one inch strips into strip segments to use in another project!
And finally, here is my Christmas quilt for today! It’s good to be sharing these quilts now, before I need to start decorating with them! I love the trees, the flying geese, the stars, the mittens…well I really enjoy this quilt. I also used my Christmas stash to make this quilt…it’s such a great feeling when you make quilts from scraps!

Hi,I know how you feel when you walk in your sewing room. My problem is a huge pile of ironing is staring at me when I walk in mine!
I love your christmas projects, I’m about to start a christmas themed quilt.

I love the Peace on Earth fabrics and have the FQ stack. They are hard for me to cut into.

The snowmen and trees are shaped so great. I love that. Yes, I know. It is like a home inside my home – when I can go work in my sewing room. It is something that keeps my spirit from exiting I think!

We Quilters are so lucky to be able to have a retreat/haven to go to, so many people don’t have that. And where could one get the pattern for this Christmas quilt. I would love to do something with that wonky tree.

I walk past my sewing room every morning on the way to the shower and make a silent promise that I will get to spend some time in there ….soon! I have lots of fabric I don’t want to cut into….LOL…and I have to push myself sometimes to do it….! Love the Christmas quilt….I must get into the attic and get the Christmas decorations down! Last year I didn’t get them up until late in December and didn’t have much time to enjoy them!

What a wonderful post…that is just perfect…My Heart Leaps Up…no matter what’s happening if I can get in and sew for just a little while, everything is better again. Love that Christmas quilt.
