Hello, friends! Today Moda is sharing the Moda Blockheads 6 Block 23 pattern. This week’s pattern is another larger block. I’ve decided to use only the 9″ blocks for my quilt setting and so have an alternative block to share with you today. (I’ve also got the link for you for this week’s Moda block). Moda Blockheads 6 Block 23
Block 23 + Block 23 Alternative Details
The Moda Block 23 is a stunner! I can’t wait to see all of the gorgeous blocks made with this pattern. But it’s also a larger block, and I’ve decided to use only the 9″ blocks for my quilt. I also realized that I would need one more block to have a set that would work with my design. So… I’m also sharing my alternate Block 23 which is a scrappy churn dash block with a 9-patch center.
How to Make My Alternate Block
Here are the simple directions for my alternate block:
Moda Blockheads 6 alternate Block 23 (9″ finished)
A: 2 (Light) Squares 4″ x 4″
B: 1 (Light) Strip 2″ x 16″
C: 4 (Light) Squares 1 ½″ x 1 ½″
D: 2 (Navy Floral) Squares 4″ x 4″
E: 1 (Navy Gingham) Strip 2″ x 16″
F: 4 (Grey Floral) Squares 1 ½″ x 1 ½″
Directions:
1. Make (4) half-square triangles using the 2 at a time method with the 4″ background and print squares. Trim to 3 ½″ x 3 ½″.
2. Sew the light and print 2″ x 16″ strips together. Trim to make four squares 3 ½″ x 3 ½″.
3. Make a 9-patch unit using the (9) 1 ½″ x 1 ½″ squares (light and grey).
4. Assemble the Churn Dash Block as pictured using the four half-square triangles, four strip-pieced squares, and the 9-patch unit in the center.
