Hello, friends! Thanks so much for stopping by for Moda Blockheads 5 (Round 2) Block 20. I didn’t make blocks 18 and 19 since I was super busy those weeks and didn’t have time for the foundation paper piecing. I’m going to have to decide if I want to go back and make them or add in some substitute blocks. But this week’s beautiful star design is shared by my good friend Moda Lissa and uses traditional piecing. Keep reading for all of the tips and more.

Block 20 Details and Tips

This week’s block was super fun to make! At first, I thought it might be challenging, but it was actually super simple and fun to sew. Don’t let the look of the block fool you–you’re going to love this one! Here are my best tips for sewing along:

• First, make sure you have a nice amount of contrast between the strip set pieces and also the background fabric. I like the look of my larger block better (because of the smaller prints).
• Make sure you accurately cut and sew the strip sets. The pattern gives you the finished measurement for the finished sets which should be exact.
• Use the 45-degree angle line and the measurement in the pattern to carefully cut the diamonds. Handle the diamonds carefully while sewing so they don’t stretch.
• My blocks ended up being just a little larger than needed, so I trimmed them to 12 ½″ and 6 ½″ square.
