Hello, and happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a great week. Today I’m sharing Moda Block Heads 3 Block 28. With this week’s block we are now half-way through our quilt along. It’s hard to believe that we are at this point, but is sure is fun to see all of the blocks coming together!
Moda Block Heads 3 Block 28
This week’s block is the classic Broken Dishes block brought to us by Joanna Figueroa. I did something just a bit different with my block this week, and I love how it turned out. I am making the 8″ finished blocks, and so this week I made the 6″ finished block and then added a 1″ border all around it.

Block 28 Tips & Tricks
- I used two charm squares and this 1″ triangle paper to make the yellow/background half-square triangles in my block (I made the 6″ size).
- Measure carefully, and don’t stretch the background and green triangles in the center unit to make sure it keeps its shape and is the correct size.
- For my border strips to make the 6″ finished block an 8″ finished block, cut two rectangles 1 ½″ x 6 ½″ for the left and right sides and two rectangles 1 ½″ x 8 ½″ for the top and bottom. (Press seams out towards the border rectangles).

Hi Sherri, when I click on your links for the pdf pattern for Moda Block Heads 3 Block 28, it does not come up. It takes me to Joanna’s site and there isn’t a pattern shown for that block.

Her pattern posted late today…it is there now.

Sherri,
I love you and your daughter. I watch every video and listen to your podcast! I am doing some of the MOda Blockhead blocks and all the Summer Sampler blocks as well as your BOM. But I had the hardest time with your block # 8. I worked on it ALL day yesterday and still didn’t get it right. Itried it with paper piecing and the other way. It seems my star never was the exact right size and my stripe corners never lined up perfectly. I wish you would do a video and break down the secrets for that block. I admit I am not an expert quilter. At all. But I manage most blocks. Not this one. Help!! I love everything you do. Your the best!!! Plus I adore your fabrics!!!

I have Balboa fat quarters pre ordred but what fabric do you use for the background? Also, where are your other fabric collections sold on the internet?
sherri McConnell says
Balboa comes with a pretty tone on tone that is perfect for background. But you can also use 9900 60 for an ivory background or 9900 200 if you prefer more of an off-white look.
