Today is my stop on the Geared for Guys Remix blog tour! Geared for Guys is a fantastic book by Emily of Crazy Old Ladies . The book contains quilt designs suitable for the men in your life…but as we’re finding out on this blog tour, the patterns are easily adaptable for any variety of fabrics!
The quilt I chose is Urban Decay, and the original version of this quilt is ultra modern…you can see it in the upper left hand corner of the collage above. In it’s original version, Urban Decay offers an innovative twist on the classic snowball block…perfect for guys.
I was first going to make my version is some fun floral Amy Butler prints…but a little fat quarter stack of Puttin’ on the Ritz by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs just kept calling to me…I knew it would make a perfect baby quilt, and I figured I could make the whole quilt using just the 12 fat quarters in the bundle! The fabrics in this quilt really are a dreamy pink…I wish there had been better lighting for these pictures!
For my version I made 12 blocks, using the fun pink prints for the block centers, one of the darker pink prints for the posts, and the lighter prints from the bundle for the sashing.
For my triangle corners I used the neutral dot from Bonnie & Camille’s Vintage Modern…it’s such a great basic that goes with so many fabrics!
I really like the proportions in this quilt, and I love how easily this went together…even if you make the larger size quilt, it’s definitely do-able in a weekend. This is a great pattern to showcase fabrics that you love…and I know I’ll be using it again!
Be sure to stop by all of the other blogs to see the “remix” versions of the quilts…and then make sure you drop by Emily’s on the 16th for a fun giveaway!
