Hello and happy Friday! This is actually one of my favorite times of the year–with the beginning of 2017 just around the corner I’m full of anticipation for projects that can be accomplished with a fresh start!
I have a few favorites to share today…beginning with a much anticipated book I received shortly before Christmas.
I could hardly wait to be able to browse the pages of Feed Sacks: The Colourful
History of a Frugal Fabric written by Linzee Kull McCray. I’ve gotten to know Linzee over the past few years, and she is just an amazing person and a beautiful writer. I was super excited when I found out she was writing a book on feed sacks because I’ve always been interested in them. I grew up with my Mom and Grandmother telling me how my grandmothers before them used feed sacks to create clothing and quilts! Additionally, as a quilter I’ve come to realize how much these frugal fabrics inspire our craft today.
There are pages and pages of photos of feed sacks…I could sit and look at these for hours on end…
but there is also so much more! This book (published by Uppercase) contains 544 pages of pure inspiration. I love that it is truly more than a history…it’s a wonderful tribute to women who made do with what they had and who continue to influence the fiber arts today.
At first I thought it was the kind of book that I might browse…but there is a wealth of history and information in the pages. I’ll be reading this one cover to cover…and looking at the photos whenever I can! You can order the book directly from the publisher here. I ordered mine and was pleasantly surprised with how quickly it arrived from Canada.
I have some other favorites today…my Fat Quarter Shop Sew Sampler box arrived right before Christmas with some fun goodies as well. Included was a jelly roll of 30’s prints by Robert Kaufman, cute Sew Cherry magnets, the new Fat Quarter Shop Orange Peel plastic templates, and a pattern to use with the templates. There was also an Aurifil floss pack with 30’s color coordinated threads.
My next post is something I always look forward to–my end of the year re-cap, and I’ll also talk a little more about goal setting and planning for quilting and sewing in 2017.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

This sounds like a really interesting book. Love hearing about the history of things, and would love to see some of those old 'Feed sacks' available in fabric form today. Great items in the FQ Sew Sample Box!

Some real eye candy in your Feed Sack book. I have a small collection which I love to fondle, but can't bring myself to cut into it.

I can't wait to see this book. Did you purchase the other two as well? If so, what did you think of them? Thanks.

I used some Christmas money to buy the book. It's even better then I expected!
