I finished 7 more blocks for my Farmer’s Wife quilt this week…that means I have just 18 blocks to go. Finally making it under the “20 block mark” has given me more motivation to keep going with the blocks. Now I’m left with mostly more time consuming blocks, though, so my goal is 3 a week…that will let me finish before the end of August.
Block 42, Fruit Basket was made using the Marti Michell Template Set S. Template set S ended up being the only set I purchased for this quilt. It really was worth it because all of the pieces for these 5-patch blocks are funny sizes. It would have been really time consuming to use freezer paper templates or even to try and measure everything.
Block 45, Grape Basket…this block uses the same pieces as the block above with just a couple changes in color.
Block 46, Hill and Valley ended up being a favorite. I really didn’t like this one until I made it…just goes to show that it’s good to try things you might not think you’ll like!
Block 49, Honeycomb is a favorite. I did make freezer paper templates for this one…it went pretty quickly, too!
Block 93, Swallow–I’d been wanting to make this one for awhile. I had figured out the math to rotary cut everything but the 4 pieces in the lower right hand corner. Finally, I decided to just use the templates for those pieces, and it went together pretty quickly.
Block 28, Duck and Ducklings…I’m really not happy with this one (you can see that I practically hid it in the top photo). There just isn’t enough contrast. The two fabrics look great together, but with so many pieces it ended up looking “too busy.” This block is also made with the Marti Michell Set S templates…not sure if I will re-make this one or not…it was a little time-consuming.
So, slowly but surely I’m getting there. I think this might be the first quilt I’ve ever worked on for more than a year…but it’s been such a great journey that I’m going to have to find something similar to take the place of this project…Dear Jane maybe?
Thanks so much for stopping by!

These blocks are awesome! I love the colors you chose. Way to go! I'm working on a ufo project and realizing how hard it is to complete a large quilt. I'm not even dealing with those tiny pieces! Kudos!

Woohoo! Congratulations on so much beautiful progress! Your least favorite block may not bother you once you put them all together. I have good luck putting blocks I don't love in the corners. They seem not so obvious to me.

Oh, I love your blocks! I agree with Michele, don't remake your least favorite. The fabrics are so pretty and every quilt needs some quiet blocks. I'm so happy to hear you've made so many of your blocks without the templates. I know when I get to the point I have to use them, they will drive me coconuts!

Hi Sherri – do you have any suggestions for books etc that demonstrate freezer paper templates and how to use them? :O) Your quilt is going to be amazing!
