Hello and happy Friday! Today I’m sharing the beginnings of a project…but not just any project! And actually I was going to wait until I was a little bit further along to share. But. It’s. So. Very. Cute. Already! It’s not secret that I love Dresden blocks…and they are not so very difficult to make at all!
When I was first trying to decide what to make with my Swell Christmas fabric I
remembered I had an older pattern I’d always wanted to make for myself in Christmas fabrics. And this is the perfect collection for it (actually any fun Christmas group is perfect for this pattern)!
The pattern is called Pot Luck (see my original post about Pot Luck here), and it’s a super easy Layer Cake pattern.
Here is the original version…All of the blocks, including the two Dresden blocks, are made with the Layer Cake squares. The quilt is simple enough for a beginner to make, and yet the two Dresden blocks just really make it shine! (Pattern available in paper and in PDF)
I also have two video tutorials that will walk you through making the Dresden plate blocks step by step.
You can find the Bigger Perfect Circles template I mention in the second video here. They are my method of choice for making perfect Dresden block center circles.
There is just something about a Dresden…I’ll be putting this quilt together this weekend and will be able to share it (minus the outer border) next week.
I’ll be back tomorrow with the next edition of the Saturday Seven!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love this! I finished (not long ago) an Irish Chain quilt done in the original Swell fabric. I managed to find someone with a bunch of fat quarters for sale. Now I need to get it quilted. I am going to have to get some of the Christmas Swell fabric. So cute!!

Oh Sherri – this quilt pattern brings back happy memories, and how I wanted to make it 'right away'. The Dresden's scared me a bit, and so it lay. Thank you for the reminder – the Dresden's really do make this quilt shine! Your Christmas version of it will look awesome!
