Hello friends! Today I’m sharing the Birch & Willow Cuddle with Moda Fabrics along with some tips for sewing with these ultra cozy fabrics! I’ve recently finished up my first sample quilt with the Cuddle fabrics, and it is such a soft and cozy quilt (I also used Cuddle with Moda for the backing, so the softness is on both sides). Find all of the details in today’s post and be sure to watch the video to see the fabrics “up close.”

Birch & Willow Cuddle with Moda Fabrics and Tips
We received our sample yardage of the Cuddle with Moda prints in Birch & Willow right before Christmas. So, it was a week or so after the holidays that I was able to start sewing with these beautiful fabrics to make my Cottage Charm quilt. (I made the smaller version included on the pattern but did add a border to make my quilt just a bit bigger). Here are a few tips for cutting and sewing with these fabrics:
- Tip: cut one layer at a time for the most accurate cutting.
- I also found that using Clover Wonder Clips was easier than pinning for holding layers together while sewing.
- I pressed all of my seams open using a pressing cloth (just a piece of cotton I put in between my iron and the Cuddle fabric).
- I used a Cuddle fabric binding for my quilt but found it was pretty bulky in the corners. I will definitely bind my quilt using quilting cotton next time.
- I also used this Cuddle fabric for a backing on my Crossroads quilt which has quilting cotton on the front. This is another fabulous way to use the Cuddle fabrics. (You’ll see this quilt in the video, too).

Hi Sherri,
Wish I could feel the fabrics. Is the cuddle stretchy enough to bind a rounded corner instead of a mitered corner?
sherri McConnell says
Not stretchy enough for that. I actually think the cotton binding is best if you want to do a mitered corner.
Kathryn Trask says
It certainly is interesting and good idea about the binding. I know young ones like this cuddle feel. I am not so sure – I am a natural fabric kind of person – cotton and wool, but you never know.

Thank you for the tips on working with the cuddle fabric. I am planning to use it on a quilt for my grandkids. They prefer the soft fabric more than cotton.

Hi Sherri, I’m looking for the Video of the Birch and Willow cotton Quilt you said you did. Is there somewhere I need to look? Thanks
