Another one of the quilts in Fresh Family Traditions: 18 Heirloom Quilts for a New Generation
is Emma’s Bear Paw. I made my Bear Paw quilt using the Scrumptious fabric collection by Bonnie & Camille. I had so much fun working on this traditional quilt design with such fun fabrics.
Like several of the other quilts in the book, Emma’s Bear Paw is modeled after a quilt made by my great great grandmother, Emma Acelia Wakefield Fitzgarrald. Grandma Emma’s version is such a special quilt. Emma’s piecing wasn’t perfect, but she made every stitch by hand. The fabrics in her quilt are from left-overs from the dresses and aprons my grandmother remembers her wearing.
And her version is set on point, which I think is just a beautiful setting for this block.
Things have been a little crazy around here , but I have spring break coming up next week…and boy do I have plans to sew! Thanks so very much for stopping by!
