Hopscotch

I have another "nearly finished" quilt to share...my "Hopscotch" quilt (pattern by Camille) came back from the quilter. All I have left to do now is hand-stitch the binding.

This is another quilt that has been "in the works" for quite a while. After making a "Hopscotch" sample for Camille in December 2011, I knew I wanted to make my own version but simply couldn't decide on fabrics. I taught this quilt as a class at a retreat at Ruby's Inn at Bryce Canyon last February and used a couple of Vanessa's Simply Color Jelly Roll strips to start my sample blocks. After making just a couple of trial blocks with those fabrics I knew I'd found the fabric I wanted.

At the time I was going to use a solid grey for the alternating diamonds, but after seeing the grey pin dot in Happy Go Lucky, I decided that was the grey I needed, so the quilt was put on hold while I waited for the yardage to arrive in shops. I finally got the blocks and quilt top put together this June while at a retreat....

And then I couldn't decide on quilting. At first I was going to try some straight line quilting, but I talked myself out of it, worried I would somehow mess it up. I decided to take it to Abby last weekend, and she suggested chevrons...

I am absolutely in love with the quilting. The chevrons keep the modern feel and yet don't overwhelm the quilt which has a strong graphic design and is made with some pretty bold fabrics. I used the pre-made Moda Bella bias binding in aqua which seemed to be the perfect accent. I'm glad I went with a solid instead of using one of the fabrics in the quilt which might have been a little "too much."

I also went with a grey Moda Bella solid on the back (the one I was originally going to use for the star points). I love how the chevron quilting really shows up on the grey.

My binding pile is starting to pile up...maybe I can get some finished up over the long weekend. More pictures to come after the binding is complete!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hi Sherry,
I also think your quilt finished beautifully.
I have a question regarding a post from early May when you shared Water Lily. That is my all time favorite quilt! The question pertains to Sunnyside by Kate
Spain and your indication of a future quilt. Any up dates to be shared? The fabrics in this new line are gorgeous and I'm anxious to see how you use them.
And thank you for the time you take in blogging.

Oh your blog gets me in trouble! Quilts I never would have thought of making turn into quilts I must have :) too many on my list as it is! Great job, I love it.

I agree with Maxwells. i love your blog but you make so many
gorgeous quilts with fabrics I would not have thought of,that turn into quilts I must have
and I love them. Your color and fabrics choices are stunning and I love them all.
One question though and I hope you have time to answer please? Where do you
get Moda pre-made bias binding please? Is it that you have pre-made them before
or can it be purchased? Thank you for your time and great inspiration.
Very gratefully yours, Luba Kale(Canada)

It's beautiful Sherri! Sometimes waiting to make decisions turns out to be the best. I love that you used so many solids!
