The prom dress is finished! It took a lot longer than I expected and required a lot of fittings since I combined three patterns. The bodice is Butterick 4918, the sleeves are Butterick 5184, and the skirt is McCall's 5321. Both fabrics, satin and organza, frayed very easily, so I used french seams in all of the skirt pieces (doubling my sewing time). The bodice is lined and underlined, and all of the bodice seams have boning in them as well.
Here is a close-up of the skirt. The organza has tiny rhinestones that really sparkle and add a lot to the look; however, the rhinestones made it difficult to sew, especially when doing the rolled hem. Younger daughter is pleased...now she just has to figure out how she is going to do her hair before Saturday. Her date is going to wear a white tuxedo...they'll be a cute couple.
Now that it's finished I'm happy that I made it...but, wow, it really took over my life for the past few days! I'm looking forward to getting back to some quilting!

I love how modest but wonderful it is!!! JUST BEAUTIFUL!!
Seriously I keep looking at it.
BELLE of the ball indeed. I think the dress looks like it is from Beauty and the Beast (except done in blue not goldish yellow). Your daughter is LOVELY and GLOWING! You did a fabulous job on the dress. WOWEEEE! Along the lines of Belle, I suggest an updo.
Oh... Sherri...

Oh how beautiful! The color and shape of the gown bring back memories of my prom gown way back in the 1960s. And how lovely that you fashioned it for your beautiful daughter.
AMAZING!!! She looks like a princess. You have done such a spectacular job and what a treasure for that you've made it for her. Kelsie's prom is Saturday too...tell your daughter to have a wonderful time.

She looks like a princess already! I've never made a prom dress (with 3 daughters) so I'm impressed.
Beautiful dress. I was wondering how you avoided the rhinestones in doing the sewing.
The color is perfect for her! You did a wonderful, beautiful job on both and the daughter and dress. :)
And thank you so much for sewing her a dress that belongs on a young lady.

She's beautiful! Lovely dress... I love the color!
OMG! I looks great. I could never tackle something like that.
I love the color and the rhinestones add a little touch of "bling" to the dress. At least she will be the only at the prom with an original dress.
This is awesome! I had been helping a girl at church who wanted the same pattern for her prom dress! We were having the hardest time figuring out which bodice to choose to make it fit and still be modest - this is perfect! Your daughter looks beautiful in it, and the fabric is perfect :)

oh my goodness! how talented are you? gorgeous dress and gorgeous daughter! ☺
Stunning! I just wrote that and looked down and see Julia said that too. and it is!!! So stunning. She's beautiful Sherri. With or without the dress. But it makes her look so Cinderellaish. She will be the belle of the ball. How exciting. What a good mom you are. She will ALWAYS remember this - eternally - that you put your life aside for her and made her the most beautiful dress because you love her.
It turned out beautiful. I do know what it's like to make one of these.. I made my daughter hers a few years ago, and was literally on pins and needles until it was finished. That kind of fabric is NOT easy to work with.. like cotton!
(standing and clapping wildly) BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!
Wow Sherri! Sooo impressed here. She's lovely. You both will always remember this.
Holy cow! I knew you were talented, but I had no idea you were that talented! I only dream of being able to sew.
What a great mom you are! Such a cute and modest dress. She will be the prettiest girl at the prom.
Wow! You are amazing! She looks like she stepped right out of one of the princess movies! I'm sure she is your princess! It fits very nicely and your daughter looks comfy and happy in it! Enjoy the finished product/project and have a wonderful day! Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Gorgeous dress!! And a happy, beautiful girl :-)
Wow! Beautiful. Sure hope you'll post a pic of the handsome couple :) Love how it is beautifully modest. I have boys and love it when the girls show up COVERED! And believe it or not ... the boys like it better too.
What a lucky daughter to have a Mom that can make a dress like that! Beautiful.
Very pretty dress. I love the color.
Congrats on such a big job, those French seams take what feels like forever to complete. It's a gorgeous dress, and I was so impressed to see how modest it is. These days teens seem to want to reveal everything they have.
Sherri, your daughter is beautiful in her dress. The dress reminds me of the one Taylor Swift wore when she sang "Love Song". I know this took a lot of sewing.
