Do you ever buy fabric "just because?" I used to do that a lot, then I went through a stage where I didn't buy anything unless it was for a certain project. Now, I've reverted to the "just because" stage. I picked up these lovely Michael Miller fabrics over the weekend. I didn't have anything in mind for them...they were just sooo lovely!

Recently, I also bought a yo-yo maker, just because I'd been wanting to try it. (I've been thinking about making a garland for the tree (for next year) out of yo-yo's). There was a fun, free pattern for "Pennie Pockets" from Monica at
The Happy Zombie the other day...so I got out the yo-yo maker!

I'll have to say...it was almost as fun as covering buttons. I could easily cut a stack of little squares and take the yo-yo maker, fabric and a needle with me wherever I go. I might get a lot of yo-yo's made that way! I also made prairie points for the first time since they were required for the "pennie pocket!"

It's really a fun little project...you can fill it with whatever goodies you'd like. Monica also tells you how to make it a different size...which I might try. A lot of miniature "pennie pockets" would make a great Christmas tree garland as well!

Oh, I really like those pennie pockets! Thanks for the link. I have also been thinking about making a yo-yo garland. Yours looks great in those Christmasy fabrics.

I seem to do a lot of buying fabric "just because". Oooo polka dots AND Michael Miller. I've never tried a yo you maker and I just love the little penny pocket. You have a busy workshop.
Your pocket is so cute, Sherri! You make me want to run out and buy some new Christmas fabrics!
I love your idea for making a yo-yo garland for the tree. Next year. Next year. Oh I want to make one NOW! I just love that yo-yo maker and I'm looking for things to yo-yo-fy... I think a garland just may be the ticket - thanks for the inspiration!
Those are absolutely lovely -- I can't wait to see your garland draping the tree.
So you like the Yo-Yo makers... have thought of buying them...but haven´t yet...
Love your new decorations for christmas... :o)..and thanks for the link..
The red and white fabrics are beautiful. I bought 2 sizes of the yo yo makers and I like the way the work. You could really get a pile in a hurry.
wow.....those fabrics are fabulous!! ...I downloaded the pennie pocket pattern from Monica's site the other day....and will definitely be making up a few...don't they look great in the fabrics you chose too!!....I bought some lovely green/red/white fabric when I was at a workshop the other day.....now the perfect use for them...!! I am also back to "just because" fabric purchasing!
I recently told someone else who'd bought the yo-yo maker how much quicker they are to make without it. I bought one and only made one before going back to the old way. There's a tutorial at this site:

Love your penny pocket - looks like a great little project! I love you new Michael Miler spot fabric - so cheerful!
"Just because" is a very good reason to buy lovely fabrics, just because it is great to look at them and touch them at home whenever you want!
That is so cute! What a great idea! I'd like to make some to hang on the tree or use as little gifts for the teachers and bus drivers! I can see them with a candy cane and some chocolates in them! :0)
i think those pennie pockets are just so cute...=)...
I have been curious about those yo-yo makers. I look at them all the time in the store and then change my mind...but temptation keeps coming at me...and your blog post is one. I love what you did with the yo-yos ...maybe I will finally go out and get my yo-yo maker once and for all.
I've been thinking valentine pennie pockets!
Well you KNOW I buy fabric just for the heck of it. It is part of my hobby - collecting beautiful fabrics. And I just wish I could do more of it!
Nice stash builders there.
Love that project! I'm addicted to making the darling yo-yos! I have the tiny, regular and large size.
I am a follower of the 'Just Because' philosophy, it doesn't help that I've just started working in a fabric shop :)
