Hello and happy Friday! Today I’m excited to share my project for the Fat Quarter Shop 2018 series Year of the Fat Quarter! Because it’s the year 2018 and fat quarters are generally 20″ x 18″ the Fat Quarter Shop ladies decided this would be a fun year to present a different monochromatic bundle of fat quarters each month. I was able to choose the color green…and what a perfect month for this colorway!
I was thrilled to see that they used some The Front Porch fabric greens in this
bundle. There are lots of terrific prints included, and they work together wonderfully!
Fat
Quarters are definitely my favorite pre-cut because they are so very
usable! You can cut all of the other pre-cuts from a fat quarter and
still have a little left over for your scrap bin!
While trying to decide upon a project I remembered that I really don’t have any green table decor for St. Patrick’s Day. I think about it every year when it’s just too late to get something made, but now I have a lovely table runner in the perfect green hues for celebrating not only the holiday but the upcoming arrival of spring!
I used the Rhinestone Tablerunner pattern from the book Tablerunner Bliss and added just two background fabrics to complete my runner: Moda Bella Ivory 9900 60 and my favorite text print on ivory from The Front Porch fabric collection.
This is a nice-sized runner: 20″ x 60″ and will make a great statement on my dining table! I plan on accessorizing it with a white cake stand and decor for St. Patricks Day during the first half of the month and decor for Easter the second half of the month!
I pieced a scrappy binding while making the runner so it would be ready to bind as soon as it was quilted. Did you know fat quarters are the perfect size for making scrappy binding? Simply cut a 2 ¼″ (or 2 ½″ if you prefer) strip from the fat quarter bundle, use as cut or cut the strip in half so you have (2) 2 ¼″ x 10″ strips, and sew together with the rest of your strips (see my Scrappy Binding tutorial here).
I was able to have my friend Gail quilt this last minute (thank you Gail!) so I can share it with the scrappy binding added (and show you how it came to life with the quilting). I just need to get the binding stitched down, and I can decorate–yay!
I’m using the remaining fat quarters in the bundle to piece a scrappy backing–another reason I love fat quarters! This has really been a fun bundle to work with!
You can find the Fat Quarter Shop March fat quarter bundle here, The Front Porch text print I used here, the Moda Bella Ivory 9900 60 here, and the Table Runner Bliss book here.
Happy quilting…and happy year of the fat quarter!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Your table runner IS Spring on a table! The Greens are perfect and remind me of the Crayola Crayon Spring Green! As a little girl, I loved coloring with "Spring Green" mixed in with all the other Greens in the Box of 64 Crayons. I believe my love of quilting is an extension of my love of coloring as a little girl.,. The only difference is I'm coloring with FABRIC!

It's beutiful Sherri! I think I need a green table runner too! 🙂 And my lovely bundle of Front Porch arrived today (yay!!)and I think I'm going to pull those greens and some greens from your other lines to add to it> It looks fun and quick, and that is what I need right now! 😀 And my daughter looked through the FQ bundle and stopped at the red with the little flower print and said it was her favorite. She was looking at the prints to see what would look good in little girl dresses. I think they would all work beautifully for that! 🙂 Have a great weekend!! Hugs, H
