Earlier this summer I shared my Scrappy Log Cabin blocks–they were a lot of fun to make, and after mailing off my 36 blocks I’ve been trying to patiently wait for my swap blocks to arrive. Friday morning a wonderful package arrived on my doorstep.
It was so much fun looking at each and every block. Every block has fabrics I oohed and aahed over, and I love every one! I was a little worried that with so many people involved in the swap that the colors would be too “off” to use in one quilt, but I was happily mistaken! I love the combinations that arrived!
So I now have 12 of my original blocks and 36 new ones…48 in all. The blocks measure 10 ¼″ square, so I’ll be able to have a 6 x 8 block layout for a pretty good size quilt!
Aren’t they lovely! I am just so happy with the mix of colors and fabrics!
Now I need to decide on a setting…I could set the whole quilt with all of the original center squares in the upper left corner…
Or I can have the original center squares in the four outer corners and make four block sections…
Or…I can turn the original center squares to the center and have this fun scrappy layout!
Or…I can set the blocks on point or even start thinking of some options with sashing for an even bigger quilt!
I know I’ll be making a decision soon because I want this quilt finished yesterday. I even have the perfect backing fabric thanks to a good friend!
How would you set these blocks? Ideas appreciated! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I like the third option.

With these beautiful blocks, you could turn them 'every which way but loose.' I too want this one finished yesterday and can hardly want to see your final arrangement.

Scrappy is always my favorite look for log cabins. . .

Depends if you wanna have a bigger quilt or not. Personally I would choose the first option (but instead of the upper left corner I would let the centers face in the lower right one) and add stashing (scrappy low voulme) and cornerstones in red. But whatever you choose it'll look great:-)

Looks like it will be a great quilt. Maybe on point with all the center squares up. Maybe I will start working on my own quilt.

My vote is the same as Elaine M. Put all of the center squares up and the blocks all on point. No matter what you do with these blocks, though, this quilt will be gorgeous! Have fun!!

I was going to choose option 1, until I saw the suggestion for on point. How big will your quilt be?

Not going with the flow here….loving the option with squares turned to the center! These are so fun, I will have to start gather names for a swap too I think. Thanks for sharing these Sherri, can what to see what you decide. And then we'll get a look at Carrie's and Lissa too I hope.

I made a quilt like this a few years ago and was extremely pleased that I used a sashing and had the corners pointed into the center. Good luck. Try all the options on your design board!

I like the original centers to the center – looking forward to seeing it all put together!

Ha ha — you are not the only participant asking readers for their thoughts on the setting for these blocks. I like the idea of having every block oriented the same way for a quarter log cabin look. For some reason that makes each fabric stand out more to my eye.

I like the centers together. Great blocks!

Go look at Melissa Corry's post for today: she's got pictures of different layouts. They could spark some ideas for you. Have fun!! Hugs, H
