Happy Tuesday! Scrap quilts are so much fun, and this week I’ve decided to get back to work on a project that has kind of been on the back burner for awhile.
I started these fun half-square triangle blocks well over a year ago. I was doing really well in the beginning, and I even have a pretty good supply of half-square triangles just ready to be sewn into blocks.
I’ve done a lot of sewing with Bonnie & Camille fabrics, so it seemed a great way to use left-overs from so many quilts! Several other quilters were sewing these blocks: I know Camille, Carrie, and Thelma all were working on them, but somewhere along the line I got side-tracked.
There were 25 blocks I was going to make, and I only made 8. I realized the other day that the reason I quit sewing was that I didn’t have a great system for keeping track of the blocks I had made and still needed to make. I was following the pdf diagrams on my iPad and didn’t have a system for keeping track (I love pdf’s, but sometimes a girl’s just gotta have the pattern printed out).
So this weekend I printed out the block layout pages. I’m going to put a check mark next to the ones I’ve made, and then I’ll be able to get moving on this project again. I think a lot of the time we just need to figure out why we’ve quit working on a particular project…sometimes it’s a simple fix to get moving…as with this project for me.
Another reason I think I stopped working on this was because I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with the blocks. Twenty-five 8″ blocks won’t make a very big quilt…but with sashing and sashing posts and a border…well this might just be a good lap size quilt. I think figuring this out has motivated me too!
Are you working on any scrap projects this week? Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love your HST Blocks Project. I did start out to do some scrappy blocks this week and even sorted through my 2 1/2" scraps…..then found a 'House' Quilt pattern and grabbed a layer cake that I had and…..! Well, like you said – we can easily get side-tracked :)!

So many times I start similar projects like this and put them away in a zip lock bag because something more interesting and challenging comes along. I don't know how many times I have pulled an "old" project out of the pile with renewed energy and maybe with a new plan. I will finish something that brings me so much creative joy. It looks like you are having fun with your "old" project. It looks great! If you finish, good. If not, it will be there the next time! Have fun!

LOVE these! so pretty! 2 years ago I started a hst quilt using Marmalade and not sure what I was thinking at the time because then I cut them to make hourglass and now they are 3"…. that makes a lot of 3" squares to make a decent size quilt lol wish me luck!

I am working in a scrap project today! I have joined a scrap club with a local teacher. We are doing Kansas Trouble thus round so lots of hst too. I used triangles on a row for the first time. I am sold! Now to finishing trimming 480 hst to move on to the next step. Thank goodness I have 3 weeks to complete that homework! I have a UFO sitting on my sewing table. I will have to look at it and figure out what stalled me. Have a great day Sherri.

I'm so glad to see you've pulled this project out again. I have been planning to do the blocks with my Bonnie and Camille scraps too, and maybe I will finally get started with the incentive you just gave me!

I remeber the quilts Carrie and Thelma made they were gorgous! How about you set your blocks on point? The quilt will be bigger then. And yes, this quilt was on my list too but then I got side tracked with I-don't-know-what but perhaps I should it put back on.

My take along project while camping this week is to use Triangles on a Roll to make HSTs. When inspiration strikes, they'll be ready!

I'm with you, I need something printed to scribble on as a I go. I love my ipad dearly, but am still a pen and paper girl for a few things, patterns being one of them.

This will be so fun when you put those blocks all together. I have a whole bunch of HST's that haven't even made it into blocks yet. I need check lists for sure!
