My scrappy string quilt just hasn’t been going together very fast, so I’ve challenged myself to make a string block a day for the month of August. It’s tempting to make more, so on the days I have extra time I might try to make some ahead to use for the times things are really hectic.
By the end of the month I should have at least 7 more completed large blocks! I hope this works; I really do love string quilts and have always wanted to make one. I’ll be sharing a tutorial soon for how I’m making my blocks.
I’m also trying to work on works in progress as the summer winds down…my solids along quilt made with the Moda Friendship blocks is finally taking shape…and I have another set of sampler blocks that have been sitting in a box for far too long that should be set together soon! I had to work on some works in progress this weekend, though, since I want to start a couple of new things (including a couple of projects on my Ten Things This Summer List)!
What are your goals for August? Thanks so much for stopping by!

Have fun with these string blocks Sherri 🙂 I hope to finish a few WIP's that don't really have much left on them. And I also hope to do the new Canasta Schnibble. I just need to decide what fabric to use!

Love the colours in your string blocks.

I love string quilts. They are fast, fun, and mindless sewing. I've made a few and now I have a bin of strings for another. My biggest goal for August is to get a couple of quilts quilted.

a block a month doesn't seem like a lot but at the end of the month , that's a lot of blocks, so hang in there, you can do it! my first quilt to learn to make with my aunt was a string quilt, the old way of pieceing the blocks onto newspaper , I've got a trip around the world quilt that I need to finish, I should of done the block a month 6months ago lol!

I've made several string quilts and I must admit they are fun to make. Your blocks look great, Sherri.
My plans for August – to just sew. 🙂

Love both these quilts! So nice to get projects completed. Can't wait to see what is next on your list.

When you make string blocks, do you pay attention to color choices, or do you really just put any scraps together? Yours look pretty coordinated.

I've never made one of these and would like to, so I'm looking forward to your tutorial. Thanks in advance!!

I think your idea about tackling the string blocks is a good one! My goals for August are finishing a BOM from last year!! I'm almost done – just putting the borders on and it will be ready for the quilter. I've also picked up a charm pack and layer cake that I want to make quick family quilt with AND I'm still working on stars for one of my son's quilts. I need 48 and I have 6!

Even though it's not going as fast as you'd like, it's looking pretty darn nice. I've made one for my daughter but granddaughter wants one too – must get at it. I have so many scraps, just wish they didn't pile up so fast.
