For a few years now I’ve been thinking of painting my sewing room…yes, years, I know…terrible. But the reason I couldn’t start was that I couldn’t decide on a color. Because I wanted the perfect color. And so finally I decided to shamelessly copy Camille and use the paint she used for her sewing room (Waterscape by Sherwinn Williams). I have to say it was worth the wait–I’m absolutely in love with this color. And while I’m nowhere near finished with this room, at least I can sew while I’m figuring out what to put where. I’m going to move things around and re-organize everything; nothing decorative is going back in without passing the “do I love it” test, and no fabric goes back without being organized. With so many decisions to make, I did find one decision easy. The one thing I knew for sure the second the paint dried on this corner of the room was that my Spools quilt would hang right where it is. I’ll show some after pictures…hopefully soon…because that will mean that all the fabric currently residing on our dining room table has made its way back into the sewing room. And that will be a good thing because I’ve already had a few friends come over and look a little shocked at the amount of fabric on the table. But they don’t quilt, so it’s okay!
More than once today I’ve wondered what I was thinking when I decided to paint my sewing room. It’s turned into a much bigger project than I anticipated. Anyway, if you’ve followed along this far, I do have a new quilt to share…
My sister-in-law has this quilt hanging in her sewing room. It’s adorable…I wish the picture did it justice (the only one I took was on my phone). The applique’ and the quilting on this wall hanging is absolutely beautiful. And this really kind of sums it all up, too…we quilters are pretty obsessed sometimes about this wonderful hobby we have. But isn’t that a wonderful thing?!
Thanks so much for stopping by…have a wonderful day!

It looks lovely. I have the same problem….ever since i moved here 6 years ago I said "never mind about the fuchia pink feature wall in the entry, I will paint over it" HA..famous last words. I cannot decide on a colour to repaint it.

Your color choice is definitely pretty.

LOVE the color! What a huge job! Clapping for you! I need to get myself really motivated to organize my fabric.

what a lovely color! I have to organize my fabric, etc too. Of course, I'd rather quilt than organize *grin*

I haven't painted my studio yet either. It is still builders plain flat white. but we've only been in this house less than 2 years so it isn't all that bad. I still have other rooms that need to be painted. I dread painting my studio the most, not because I don't like to paint but because all the work it will be to clear it out to get it done.
Cindy says
Oooh! Exciting! I'm getting ready to paint my powder room the same color!

That quilt is darling!
I understand the comment about having someone see the amount of fabric. I'm getting ready to move so the stash is getting packed into those large clear plastic boxes. I still can't decide if I feel joyful when I see it all, or embarrassed that it has grown to this point. I keep telling myself it is my fabric savings account.

Just love the color and your spool quilt looks just right for that spot. Really nice job and good luck with the fabric piles.

You are right that is a beautiful wall hanging. I was into the painting last winter. I didn't get much sewing done last winter but making up for it this winter. Be careful and don't do what I DID. I pulled my shoulder out painting the ceiling. It was very painful and took the rest of the winter and spring to fix. Spent a few weeks at the ciropractor. I know that its spelled wrong but can't think . Have a great day.

I love how your sewing room is coming along. I wanted to ask a question on the spools quilt you did. Is that jelly roll friendly? Also I love the quilt in your sister's sewing room. That just rocks!

Hmmmm…..I can see why you like that paint color. I'm sure you'll be SO so so glad when it's all done. I really need to just yard everything out of my sewing room, carefully evaluate it all, work on some clever storage solutions, carefully put back things in a careful way and then look on in horror at what is left over!

I love your wall color, and the Spools quilt fits perfectly!

i absolutely love that wall color.
my sewing room got painted this week, too.
i tried realllllllllllly hard to commit to aqua.
and i just couldn't do it.
i must be more of a green girl.
but every time i see photos of an aqua/blue/teal room, i have serious painter's regret.
for now, though, i'll live with the green i chose.
i'd also like to live with that perfect spool quilt! 🙂

It's a lot of work for sure. But I'm betting you'll enjoy it so much that it'll be worth it!

I do know how you feel. I did this several years ago. I still love my paint color so it is worth waiting and looking. I find I have to "redo" my room in a mini way every year or so to get rid of things I've collected that I might love, or things that are used and now can be re purposed. I also do that with my fabric. And I donate my "I don't love it anymore" fabric to one of my nieces and then if no one wants it, DI. It works for me. I know how good it feels to get it all done and in place. YOu've got that right around the corner. I'm jealous. IT is such a good feeling. Love the paint color.

I love the color you chose. It's lovely! And the spool quilt looks perfect there. I'd love to make one like that someday!
Best of luck with all your sorting and organizing. I'm doing the same thing, and it's a bit overwelming at times.

Lovely color. My sister just painted her artist studio a similar color because it doesn't fight with her paintings and she can judge her colors better.

It looks beautiful! I have a few rooms that are waiting for the perfect color too………We got new carpet back in the fall and wow that opened a can of worms! Lots of stuff everywhere including all of my quilting stash and supplies, so I understand!

Great color, "sew" calming. That wall hanging is super cute, did she give it to you for your re-decorated sewing room ?

Ugh. I have a paint chip tacked up on the wall in my sewing room (Wheat Grass by Behr—it's a yellow/green that harmonizes with my oak furniture), but I'm putting it off until I get a new window in there this spring. I am dreading it—between the window, new drapes/shade, and painting, all the furniture from my sewing room will probably be parked out in the living room for at least a week. Or two—you know how those projects usually go!

I love the color of your sewing room. Very pretty. I want to go turquoise with my room when it gets done. And I know I'll be destashing some when I have to move to the new room.
Your stash fits on your dining room table? I wonder if mine would. Haha! Just kidding!
