I’ve been doing a little sewing…yay! Staying in and sewing is one way to deal with the heat, right?! So I’ve started sashing my Christmas Farmer’s Wife Blocks. I divided the blocks into two piles, the ones to be set straight (like the ones above) and the ones that will be set on point. When I first divided them up I didn’t pay attention to numbers, I just put them in a pile according to how I liked them best. In the end I only had to move a few from the “straight setting” pile over to the “on point” pile. The straight setting sashings are going pretty quickly, and I love the extra white space that will be in the quilt.
In my quest to make it feel like autumn around here I decided to sew with some fabric that says “fall” to me.
These fabrics are from the collection “Urban Cowgirl” by the Urban Chiks for Moda…I really love this fabric. I had one charm pack and a little yardage which made it perfect to…
Add a little rick rack and…
Make a new fall bag! I used Nanette’s “Mixed Bag to Quilt” pattern; however I made a few changes. Instead of using 6 fabric strips for the bag front and 6 additional strips for the bag back I used just 5 strips for each side. I pieced my strips together using charm squares for a more scrappy look. I also used a magnetic snap closure inside the bag instead of making the button/loop closure the pattern calls for.
I’ve been wanting to try a bag that was just a bit smaller, so I’ll see how I like this size! I sure do love the gorgeous fall colors of this collection though!
Thanks so much for stopping by…what are you working on today?

Perfect size bag and you are right about the fall colors, … although I'm in denial that it is really that late in the year already. Your FW blocks are so crisp, I look forward to seeing the whole thing done. And, since you asked, I'm working on completing the final border for the 2011 DM BOM and am going to attempt to FMQ a baby quilt I made for a friend who is now a first time grandmother. I hope I don't ruin the quilt, it really is adorable. But to keep the cost down, I need to try and quilt more myself. When do you start to get ready for Fall Quilt market?

I just love the colors you chose out for the Farmers' Wife blocks. They are just beautiful. I can't wait to start working on mine in January. Right now I am trying to catch up on the Vintage Holiday Quilt along blocks!

Love the bag! I also am so excited to see your Christmas Farmer's Wife blocks sashed! I liked the layout idea of some straight and some on point like you showed a while back. When you do the on point ones, would you mind sharing how you did that so that all the blocks ended up measuring the same? :O) I have some binding to put on a runner and a few UFOs I hope to finish in the next day for a gift.

Looking forward to seeing the Christmas FW quilt once it is completed. Love your fabric choices! I'm finishing a sunburst block for my local quilt group's block exchange due in September. It's keeping me busy!

I like the quilting you did on your bag. On another matter, I'm having difficulty commenting on your giveaway blog. This has happened on other blogs as well. I suppose I'm too late and that is the reason there is no comment box. I always thought there would be a notice saying when a giveaway was closed. Thanks for your help.
