Happy Friday! Today I have instructions for the third block in the Summer Sampler Series.
Today’s block is the Star Puzzle block! I used two different fabrics and a
background for each of my blocks.I was actually lucky to be able to use half-square triangles from my scrap bin for all of the hst sections of these blocks.
All I needed to do was make the four flying geese units for each block and I was ready to go. I sure do love my scrap bin!
What you’ll need: (note, the fabric squares for the half-square triangles are not pictured–the finished half-square triangles are pictured instead).
- 1 square 4 ¼″ x 4 ¼″ of background fabric for flying geese units
- 4 squares 2 ⅜″ x 2 ⅜″ of print fabric #1 for flying geese units
- 4 squares 2 ½″ x 2 ½″ background fabric for half-square triangles
- 2 squares 2 ½″ x 2 ½″ of print fabric #1 for half-square triangles
- 2 squares 2 ½″ x 2 ½″ of print fabric #2 for half-square triangles
First, make four half-square triangles using 2 background squares and two print fabric #1 squares. Trim the half-square triangles to measure at 2″ x 2″. Use this method to make the half-square triangles.
Next, make four half-square triangles using 2 background squares and two print fabric #2 squares. These half square triangles should also measure 2″ x 2″.
Assemble the pinwheel section using the four half-square triangles made with print fabric #1. This unit will measure 3 ½″ x 3 ½″ when assembled.
Finally, make four flying geese units using this method. The flying geese will measure 1 ½″ x 3 ½″ at this point.
Now that you have all the parts and pieces for the block, you can assemble the block sections. I pressed the seams between the rows open.
I’ve had a couple of requests for the links to the previous posts in this series. I’ll include them at the bottom of each post, and when the sampler is finished I’ll add all of the links to my tutorials page
