Hello and happy Wednesday! I’ve been meaning to do a little Splendid Sampler sewing for so long…and the other evening I finally sat down and made two more of these fun blocks.
One of the most recent blocks required foundation paper piecing, so I paired
that block with a super simple one and set out to sew! I used scraps from my recent quilt market sewing for Joanna of Fig Tree & Company for both blocks I’m sharing today (her new collection is called Coney Island, and I’ll be posting about the quilts I made for her soon).
First I made block 71, First Stitch. I especially loved that the instructions for this foundation paper pieced block gave cutting instructions for all of the fabric pieces–there is so much less waste when you have this information.
One thing to note when you make this block: each stitch is made of two sections, and you’ll need to add a ¼″ seam allowance to each section where they join with the other. You also have the option of making each stitch with two different fabrics or making each one with a different fabric as I did. This was really a fun pattern, and I loved that the seams nest when you sew each block section together.
Block 73, +Love was really fast and fun…the hardest part about this one is picking fabrics! I was pretty excited to use the cream print with taupe chevrons for the outer squares…I knew it would add just that extra something that a solid fabric wouldn’t have.
I’m up to 31 blocks now…and there are still a lot more patterns to be released. I’m thinking about an on-point setting with around 50 blocks…
It’s always so fun to see all of the blocks together. This project has really been a great on-going work in progress to have this year. I can work on it here and there and still feel like I’m making progress. Plus, I’m using scraps for a win-win!
If you’re sewing along, be sure to download the patterns each week as the new blocks are released. The patterns won’t be available for free download after the sew along is over. But…there will be an amazing book published at that time that will have all of the blocks and several sampler quilts included!
Happy quilting! And thanks so much for stopping by!

Your blocks are so pretty, they are all different but really go together well. I think on point would be a nice layout.
Thank you Sherri for sharing your creativity

Your blocks are looking more beautiful every time I see them. I can't wait to get some Coney Island Fabric. I'm such a fig tree fan.

Sherri your blocks are so pretty. I wish I had your scraps on my shelf. I love anything Fig Tree. You have motivated me to get some blocks done.

They look great! I've been seeing a sea of Fig Tree fabrics here at home too. I've spent a lot of time the past week catching up on months 7, 8, and 9 of the Fig Tree Mystery BOM. Can't believe we're at more than 70 blocks and counting. Still 3 months to go!

Sherrie, I always love seeing your stack of ongoing blocks. As I was looking at them, I noticed the navy fabric on the left with orange flowers in it. Would you happen to know where I can get a FQ of that?
