Things have been crazy a little hectic around here. Yesterday my daughter and I decided to make sugar cookies; we make them every year, but we decided this year we should make a double batch. I have no idea what made us think we needed to make 12 dozen sugar cookies (but if I keep eating them the way I am, they might not make it to Christmas)! Four hours later, (and with some of them put in the freezer to decorate later) we were finally done. I’ve also been working on gifts, most of which I can’t post pictures of…so I wondered what picture to post today. I finally decided to share the light display my wonderful next-door neighbors put up each year–it is truly spectacular. Thankfully, my house doesn’t show in the picture because our lights are meager, at best (I’ve been meaning to put up more, but we’ve had rain nearly every day this week–and I’m never going to complain about the rain)!
And, to top this off, my younger children are home today for a SNOW day?! (I’m sympathizing today with the bloggers back east who have this happen routinely). How am I supposed to work on presents/wrap/clean/write Christmas cards with everybody home? Parts of Las Vegas got 8 inches of snow yesterday, causing all southern Nevada schools to close today. We spent a lot of time looking at the news last evening to see the winter wonderland pictures people from all over the county were sending in!

Isn’t this weather crazy? Our schools are cancelled too. My son wanted to go sledding today but we gave away all of our snow toys when we moved here!

Lovely lights next door, I understand about having everyone home, takes me back to when all my kids were in school.

Terrific lights! My family lives near Palm Springs and they got quite a bit of snow. It’s a rare happening. The town shut down. Well in Ohio we have trucks that spread salt to melt the snow and ice and schools are only cancelled if there are extreme amounts of snow or ICE or frigid temps due to windchill. Otherwise we function as usual.

Wow.. that probably lights up the whole neighborhood!
It really is amazing to see all this snow you folks are having out there.. we’ve had some here in Ohio.. but not too bad yet.

Those Christmas lights of your neighbor’s are beautiful! They put mine to shame too!

That’s ALOT of baking! And a lot of lights at your neighbor’s house, but they did such a great job putting it together. Yay for your snow day! I’m hoping for one tomorrow here in the midwest.

Personally, I’m hoping we get your storm in a day or two…then I can send the kids out to play in the snow, cause we sure have all the stuff for it, and they’re big enough that once they’re bundled, their good until they freeze. For some reason, they always take their gloves off?! I wish I lived close enough to sample some of those cookies; I haven’t baked much except bread, and sugar cookies sound scrumptious!!!
Dawn says
Hey…where are those cookies! LOL!

I’m with you Sherri—good thing we only get this for fun every 30 years!!! It really was fun though. Great pics.

Wow what a fantastic display

You should post a picture of the cookies. Back east here we have no had snow but I have had at least one of my children home from school sick every day this week and half of last week. No time to do anything and today is the last day of school. I love having them home though. This is the time of year that Mom is as tired as the children and the teachers and could use a much needed winter break.

Your weather has been super crazy! Unbelievable. They never cancel school here. We’ve had feet of snow and they don’t cancel. That is annoying actually. The lights are fun.
